I just bought the 05 YZ250 today. Both bikes were sitting next to each other and I’ve been stareing at both these things for awhile (work at Yamaha of Troy). I've been riding a 2002 YZ250 and thought I might change to Yamaha. After years of trying to find my RM parts, all ready hard to find from 2000. Really like my 2000 Suzuki but man ever part number is different every freakn year. This last month I’ve been thinking Suzuki, liked everything about it but the banana yellow seat. Purchase day came and I flipped my thoughts back to Yamaha. Both are great bikes, Im a very novice rider and my decision came down to reading a few articles. RM does everything just alittle better then the YZ but for a more advanced rider (not me). On paper the RM was only 1 pound different then the aluminum YZ but that’s on paper. The YZ sure in the heck feels alot lighter then 1 pound diff. Also being that yammy parts are somewhat easier to get and not just because we are Yam of Troy. When we check Suzuki for parts if the bike street or dirt is more then 10 years old things can become difficult to find at times, possibly discontinued. Honda and Yamaha seem to always have it even from the 70's.
Also resale on Suzuki is poor. Checking on line auctions Suzuki’s value drops like a rock compared to the other. When it came down to dropping the money I had to stick with Yamaha as much as I wanted to have something different at the shop I had to stick with what was all around better for me.
