1979? rm80

this kid i know has a rm80 its either a 78 or 79,i have the frame numbers 40726 and it says its a 79 but all the 79's ive seen have silver swingarms and this one is black and has black shocks like on the 78's,im thinkin its a early 79....any clues? im gonna try to get it from him cuz hes gotta get rid of it but its in kinda rough shape.

the tank looks different and its metal and has the 1979 style seat cover that says rm80

I used to have a couple of those back in the day and can tell you from experience that the 79 RM80 also had a metal tank. It also had the squareish sharp angled fenders in 79. (most likely replaced by now). As far as the serial #s go have a look here:

i looked and didnt get too far,im convinced its a early 79 because of the black shocks and swing arm, will 1980 plastics fit on the 79?,i can only find 1980 plastics but no 79's and they look identical but i dont really like the angled fenders that came on the 79's

The first plastic tank was in 1982 (also first year of single shock)

I learned to ride on an RM80, a 78 i beleive. It was also the first bike I have ever fixed myself. That little thing was awesome, too bad the kid who owned decided he wanted it back. :mad:

If you can get it, GET IT. Its always going to have a soft spot in my heart. ;)
