1981 KDX 175 oil leak question

I have a 81 kdx 175 that is leaking where the shifter enters the crankcase. Does anyone know if I will need to split the case to replace that seal? Or anyone know a easy way to do that?

Probably will not need to split the case. You can likely get it out with a pick, or seal puller. Do a search on DRN for seal replacement. Lots of good info.

Can't see pic, but I've never had to split a case to replace this seal. If you can see the seal, you can likely pull it out, and press another in.

The cases don't have to be split. You may not tear it while sliding it over the shaft end (TAPE UP THE SHIFT SHAFT END WITH TEFLON TAPE AT LEAST), but the correct way is to take off the right side engine cover and install the seal, then use a guide to reinstall the shift shaft.

As glad2ride sez, take off the right side cover, remove clutch so you can take out the shift lever, remove seal and replace.
