1984 xl600r

Hey all, so im not "new" to riding but ive never really had much in the way of a decent bike, ive had an 1982 xl185 for far to long lol
I really like the xl's so id like another and i found an 84 xl600r that has been completely rebuilt, exhaust,engine,clutch,wheels the works. and he is selling it for 1,600 so my question is is this bike going to do its job or am i basically throwing money down the drain, just looking for a bit of advice.
