I checked out a 1995 kdx for my son to learn on. It seemed to be in decent shape except for a noise in the engine- it is a light rattle from idle to high rpm. The owner said that it has always been there and never get worse. He said the top end has been replaced and gone through professionally. Is this noise typical of this model. Thanks

It is usually the power valves and/or clutch and/or the power valve actuating linkage in the bottom end. Either way, it is normal. Add a full litre of oil to the tranny to quiet it down some.

You should be learning to love that clattering sound. That is the sound of reliable bike that is extremely fun to ride. They all do it..........

Hey, look whose back and alive and well and all.
The only way to get rid of that noise is to hit the kill switch. Works like a charm.

The sound I am hearing sounds like a valve rapping, or knocking sound in an old chevy 6 banger when running low octane fuel... It's fairly loud and only when I am grunting through a higher gear than necessary, for example at lower RPM's in 5th and 6th gear... It does seem to go away when I get her screaming at higher RPM's but have been cautious... Is this really normal??? Mine is a 1994 KDX 200
