I am looking at my first Kawasaki. this is a list of the stuff done strait from an e-mail I recieved from the current owner. I have worked on too many bikes to count but never a KX. I am more of a honda guy but from what I read, the motor in this bike is every bit as good as a honda. Is there anything I should look for when I go look at this bike?

Fresh top end.

Same rules apply to any bike in my book. If you can not verify the work assume it wan't done. If the bike looks like it was rode hard it was, if it looks like is was treated well it MIGHT have been.

It looks like it has been riden. Paint is worn off the frame where your boots would rub all the time. Same for the side cover. Other wise it's in pretty good shape. I will find out more tomorow when I ride it.

I find that very few people look at the underside of a bike when they are buying them. A little secret is that most people that don't really maintain their bikes don't look or clean there either. Damaged frame tubes, gouges, cracked welds are all tell tail signs that have either warned me away or helped me negotiate a significantly better price.

Of all the bikes I have ever looked at and purchased, I never thought to look under them. I look under every car and truck I buy so why not a bike. Great Idea. I will look tomorow. Thank's

I have a 2003 kx250.... GREAT BIKE !!! I see you already have the aftermarket pipe, which is all I would reccomend. Although I will say check it good....as many here know, I thought I was getting one in grrreat shape too. I ended up rebuilding the clutch and changing the head gasket in the first 6 months. No fault of the bikes, just a lying P.O.S. Seller.

Most people get really excited at the prospect of a new toy and tend to forget they are spending a large chunk of money on it which lets them fall victim to themselves.
