90' Kdx 200 Not Starting

I recently bought a kdx 200, to learn how to ride on.
I'm 14, and it's a good bike for me so I was happy.
But it was second hand.
*Dun Dun Dun*
My dad made me get one.
It was riding good after we spent a month working on it.
But, now the oil screen is showing a white fluid.
I emptied it out, and cleared it, and then refilled it.
I ran it once since then, because it luckily started...
And it's got that nasty white liquid again.
Is this a melted gasket of some sort?
Also, I recently replaced the spark plug, and the bike wont start anymore, I'm low on gas, but there is enough to start. I've also lost pressure in the kick start, where sometimes it doesn't even catch, it just goes straight down...and doesn't start. I'm hoping someone will be able to answer these questions.

Could be wrong, but it sounds like what happens when coolant mixes in. Checking gaskets and o-rings would be my first step (adds up too since you said you are losing compression).

Nah, you'll be fine. The only real way for coolant to get right in on the 200 is the seals in the inner clutch cover on the right hand side. If you pull that cover, you'll see where the water pump shaft comes through and attaches to the gear. There are 2 seals in there that have a habit of going bad. Parts for this are cheap at bikebandit and installation is easy cheesy.

While you have that clutch cover off, pull the clutch and the kickstart assembly. Take a look at the main spur gear and the little ratchet gear that hits the back. Either those gears are worn, or the little spring that engages them together is weak. The spring is no big deal, the gears are not particularly cheap. You can sometimes find the whole assembly on ebay though.

BTW, there's a sub-forum of this section called "canadian daves justkdx". If you'll post there you'll get more attention from the KDX riders around here!

Yeah, gears are pretty expensive.
Ill ask around in the JustKdx forum.

I bought a 1990, used, KDX 200 a while back. It had the exact same problem, exact.
Replace your water pump seal, do the bearings while your in there.
My kick starter spur gear was worn, wobbling on the shaft. Its behind the clutch basket, your gonna have to remove that to get to it.
They are going to tell you that that part is no longer made, the next years, anyway look through bikebandit, when the part # changes, that will work. I replaced the kickstarter spring while I was in there.
Starts first time everytime now, and no milk in crank.

The bike does need quite a bit of work.
But I'm confident I can get it up and running again.

sounds like the water pump seal, make sure to put it in right,and flush the tranny out with kerosene or something
the kdx are great bikes just maintain them like all bikes and it will last
the kick starter sprag spring is weak replace it its not hard , get a manual you will not regret it
the rings are prolly wore,check the piston to cyl clearance,and ring gap
hone it lightly to remove the burnt crap in the cyl
check the reeds if there weak it will run rich,and not want to start, keep the vent tubes clean ,and clear,also check the crank case vent tube, you might want to add a 1 way check valve so if you ride in deep water it will blow out pressure but not suck in water
check the float level by the book
do a fresh top end compression check ,and take notes for the break in ware
seal all the gaskets,and wires,and breather, use a good air filter
i like klotz oil it is really good oil ,and burns clean

Im gonna do the seals first.(As most of you suggested)
Yeah, I personally haven't driven it through water yet.
The seal that keeps water out, below the air filter.
Is broken, so I haven't dared taking it even near a puddle. LOL
I'm running spectro gold, with med gas(im supersticious about low priced gas)haha.
I'll update this post with pics and stats.
