99 Yz250 Pivot bolt seized! Any Advice?

I blew the crank bearings on my 99 Yz250 and am in the process of a rebuild, but can't get the engine off. The two motor mounts came off easily, but the swingarm pivot bolt will not move. The nut is completely off and even with blunt force from a hammer and punch, it will not even slide out. Any advice? I want to do the rebuild myself to save some cash, but am now at a stalemate with the bike. Thanks.

I have to agree with yam 3; soak, heat, then soak and heat. Use a very heavy sledge hammer, 5 pounds and a 6 in x 1/2 in socket extension as a punch.

When you reinstall the swing arm pivot bolt, grease the shaft of the bolt. This will eliminate freezing in the future.

Good luck, Steve.

DONT CUT ANYTHING!!!

Get any type of chemical that will break down the gunk holding it in. WD-40 works well, or get some zep. I wouldnt bust out anything hotter than a propane torch. Get a big hammer/maul.

Good luck, dont cut

I had this problem on a 98 YZ125. I wound up cutting the shaft with a hack saw. Once apart, I found that the problem was that it was hanging up on the thrust bearing on the right side. Try prying it slightly if you can, that might get it to come loose. The replacement shaft was only about $25 so it is not really that big of a deal if you wind up cutting it out. The shaft is hollow and is easy to cut.

remember to try and utilize all the force of the hammer . If the bike is sitting up right an a crate , alot of the force is lost due to the rocking of the bike. put the bike on it's side and block up the swingarm solidly, and by all means take YAM 3 's advice and SOAK the pivot bolt . Dot it when the bike is on the side also.
