My bike had a Hinson in it when I bought it used, so I can't speak to the OEM part, but the Hinson shows zero signs of notching in the basket after one year of riding/racing - plus whatever time the previous owner put on the Hinson.

Everything I've read on here about Hinson's is that they are "Billet-proof" - just as they are named - so yes, from what I've read, most here seem to think they're worth it.

If your clutch isin't slipping, I wouldn't change to a heavier spring. Doing so will just increase left hand/arm fatigue.

The Hinson is way more durable than stock. I rode/raced with one a LOT for 2 years, handed the bike to my son, and he's got about a year on it........it DOES show signs of starting to notch, but it's not effecting performance yet. Stock lasted MAYBE a year (with 4-5 hour oil changes). I put a Performance Engineering one in my 250 (cheaper) and it's holding up well after about 1&1/2 hard years.

love the hinson, I cant feel the difference at the lever vs a new stock basket, but they do last much better, not cheap, but good. dont forget to check into buying clutch cushions during the swap. they didnt come with my kit, have to place seperate order.

HI, sorry to hijack the thread....but all this talk about clutch baskets. Mine is starting to get notched, I just put a new clutch in it, but I'm wondering what you will notice with a notched basket?

I think the stock Honda clutches are great. I rode the wheels off my '92 250 and the clutch wore until there was no adjustment left in the cable, still not slipping or dragging, I probably could have added a steel plate and went another season. I wouldn't say i'm easy on clutches, do a lot of 3rd gear corners.

Suzuki clutches, well that's another story....

the cushions are located behind the basket between the basket and the gear that is bolted to the basket, or riveted to the basket on a stocker.

As the notches get deep, the tangs of the friction plates can not slide back and forth smoothly........causing eractic (jumpy) engagement.

And apparently you can file the high spots of the notches down to fix it - for awhile.

keep in mind that by this time, there is quite a bit more slop between the tangs and the basket fingers, on accel and decel. I have seen a few broken fiber plates, can't say for certain if that was the cause but...

Stock CR baskets are pretty good. I wouldn't spend the money on a Hinson or other billit basket for woods riding.
