Hemet, CA.
Any one know where you can get plans to build your own bbq grill? I want to make a grill/smoker combo wood and charcoal fired.
After doing a little searching, I cant believe the asking price for some of these things! :coocoo:
Also any sites out there like this one but dedicated to the art od BBQ? Looking for good recipies and such.

Some buddies and I built one out of a keg in college and it worked great. Just lay the keg on its side and cut out a "door" that's as wide as you can go lengthwise and taking up about 1/3 or the "curve" of the cylinder. We used a sawzall, drill, and some random bits from a hardware store to make the hinges and handle. I think we modified an old BBQ grate to use as well. I tell you the thing worked awesome! We also had another keg we could lay it on to keep it at an appropriate cooking height and not roll (does this say anything about the amount of drinking we did?) :) The only problem is that the stainless steel is hell on blades. If you don't plan on drinking 31 gallons of beer in the average weekend I believe distributors have them but I think they cost about 8 bucks or so, not sure if they sell them to the general market though.

All of the above are ideas ... A friend just finshed a new grittle to replace the one I had at DW last year and now we are cooking up a V8 powered ice cream maker and a steak grill (they are not ONE unit).

If you want a smoker, you can make a nice one out of a 4 drawer filing cabinet.
