Well,

I had a 2000 YZ 250 for the summer of 2000 and it was a blast but I would say I utilized only 30% of the potential of that bike! I'm looking at the new 4 strokers and I'm wondering if the KTM 250exc rfs will have enough power for me at 225lbs? What's your opinion on this bike and should I be looking at maybe getting the 450 exc rfs? I want a bike that can rip, grow into, and hit up some mx jumps but I also want a bike that I'm not hangin off the bars like superman from.

The 250 rfs is a lame overweight piece of crap. The engine is a down-sized but not down-weighed 520/400. If you want a decent 250 four-stroke, go for Yamaha, but do keep in mind that they are 125 class machines and do not have the pull of a bigger bike. (I ride a 520SX, so no anti-KTM feelings here)

So maybe I should be looking at the 450exc rfs? I want a nice 4 stroke that can handle the woods as well as some track riding.(Fun times not racing on the track)

I've always had problems with figuring out the rfss smaller than 520, since they all weigh and cost about the same, but the 520 has way more power. I don't know if the 450 has better rideability on the EXC side due to some other differences, but I'd go for the 520 just for the fun.

Even the SX version is not some fire-breathing monster if you want to chug it (although the 4-speed 'box (and, hence, tall 1st gear) on the SX does make slow-speed maneuvering a bit tricky).

Well I'm looking at the 520 sx. Found a great deal and I've been told if I need the extra gearing or lights, e-start etc I can always upgrade as I go. Plus the sx is 30lbs lighter. $5300 brand new 2002 otd, whatcha'll think?

For $5300 I'd say thats an awesome deal. But I dont think you can race it in the 250 class though, but maybe the Vet class, but it doesnt matter if your not racing an official race.

Not a racer but thanks for the input.

The difference between the 02' and the 03' though, still a good deal for the 02'?
