my friend has a 75 yamaha dt with a blown coil. we can't find one from that year to replace it with. could we use a coil from a different bike or are we stuck with the search? thanks
I'd continue looking for that specific coil. I'm sure that other Yamaha coils from the same years should fit. Make sure you check it out with a dealer to verify the electrical data. Look for something in that range.
Here's a kicker. On most Husky stuff that I have run across they use a stator/coil combination. Husky put chips in the coil so you have to run a matched set of stator & coil combinations. I see coils for sale on ebay, but without a matching stator to go with it you may just be throwing your money away. I'm sure that they only have a couple of the combinations available, it's just that you hope you end up with a match of some kind and it works.
Keep looking, and you will find it. Don't forget salvage yards.
