Saturday evening was having trouble with bike starting and as I was kicking it the kick shaft broke. I have ordered one as well as complete gasket kit. I'm woundering how hard this thing is going to be to replace, I'm not really thrilled about taking the side of the engine off, any thing I should know about before I tackle this task would be apreciated.

Mine broke on my 1994 kx250 when I was having trouble starting. It was pretty easy to change but it would be hard to do without shop air. If you take on the task be sure to look very closely at each component as they are removed. A factory manual is a big plus.

I replaced one on my KX about a year and a half ago. Nothing to it. Just make sure you pay attention to how the spring and mechanism are on before you remove them. I believe they are the last thing you take off before switching the shaft.
