Brown plastic need help

Just wondering if anyone knew how to clean the brown coloration off of a gas tank. I think I remember reading something that said you could sand it then use some kind of polish on it but I'm not sure if that is right.

I had a yz 250 with a white tank and I finally used a orbital sander with some fine grit sand paper. It turned it back to white in no time and was just as strong as it had been. The discoloring is very thin. Try it out on a portion of the tank not visible and be amazed.
