i need some advice.i'm new to the sport and belong to a mc club with a great track .i also have a small track on my farm to practice on(14 jumps,50' table top).my problem is just when i am gaining confidence i do something stupid.right now i'm healing a cracked tailbone.is there a video or book on techiniques.i love the trial and error method but being 47 it is taking too long to heal up.also i ride a rm250 would i be better off with a 125.i am big compared to most riders(215,6').

You'd probably be better off if you tear off the Suzuki stickers and grab a permanent marker and write "CR" or "YZ" on it.

JK, I would stay with the 250, although a 125 is enough, I think the 250 is easier to ride.

215 lbs?!? I think the parts of Wardy that he can see weigh more than 215 lbs! :scream:

I think there are several books and videos available. Try a search in this forum for video and/or instruction. Also look at Gary Semcs' site, www.gsmxs.com.

Good luck, heal up, and keep us posted on your progress.

there was a guy at the track this weekend on a yellow bike and he kept exiting off the back of the bike while in mid air. I thought it was his riding skills, but now I am enlightened:) :D
seriously,
try doing the same jumps that you're comfortable with over and over. Try in air adjustments. Try and move the bike around on purpose ( tapping rear brake, gassing, pushing the front down and small crossups) getting comfortable with these techniques is the only way to be able to do them when it is necessary. also, stal confident and loose. good luck old timer;)

215?

heck 215 came and went back in high school, that was a little while ago.

4.6 front and 7.0 rear springs should tell the story. I wondered why the chevy was leanin, they just stole the coil off it for my honda!

Beach Member - I'm really glad to see another new, over 40 dirt-rider. I'm on the other end of the spectrum - 5'4", 125 and female, so finding a small enough bike w/some power was a real challenge to begin with. Of course, the bike weight is a big problem when I drop the bike on a hill, but I'm fortunate to have a husband thats willing to help me. I love the jumps and it helps to read all the advise from the more experienced!!!

Wardy, Where did you get the ultrastiff springs, I'm about 260. I was told I need abourt .50 but the stiffest springs I can find for my 99cr250 is .46:ugg:
