I've been on the market for a new Chevy truck.

I want the 6.0 liter but in the US you can only get it in the 3/4 ton HD truck. This is overkill both price and size wise. ($33k)

My fathers best friend in Canada just got a 2002, 1500 (half ton) **** cab with the 6 liter for 35k Canadian (about 28 US)

Apparently you can get the 6 liter in the 1500 in Canada, So what kind of tariffs/taxes hoops do you have to jump through to get one registered in the US bought in Canada?

Any thouhgts?

Confused...

So if you get the 4 door it is automatically classified as an HD?

I was under the impression the HD is only applied to the 2500 and up (3/4 ton+)

So is the Q-cab still set up as a "true" 1/2 ton or is it a 3/4 ton with the 1500 badging?

Problem is I want a 1500 ex cab short box 4X4 with the 6.0!

Oh. Well then I guess you are back where you started. The 1500 H-D is only available with the Q cab. It also has an 8600 lb GVWR, so I guess it is actually more of a 3/4 ton.

Here I thought I had solved your problem. Only not. But maybe you can't even get one in Canada. You did say your Pop's buddy got a Q cab.

Hey, maybe we can find the Canadian build a Chevy web site!

I don't know what the 1500HDs have for axles or frame, but they appear to have 8 bolt wheels, which is normally a 3/4 ton.

RZ,
I'm not an expert, yet IMO I believe the only taxes you have to pay on an "American Truck" are the state sales tax when you register it. The other problem is you can not buy any vehicle that is not at least 6 months old. As an American you can not go to Canada and buy a new car on the lot, this is to protect the American dealers from everyone crossing the border.

If you try to buy a car or import, like a toyota pick-up you have to pay some obscene amount of taxes/tariffs when you cross the border. There was some sort of trade agreement with the US and Canada on large American made pick-ups, Farm equipment, and personell vehicles that waved the tariffs.

What you need to do is hook up with some dealer who goes up to the Canadian Dealers Auto Actions(I think there is one in Calgary) and have them pick you up a nice truck, then once you get it change out the odometer and go.
