This may or may not be an old trick, but I just learned it the other day and thought it might help others out. I am very picky about the way my bike looks, but I do not really have the resources to be spending a lot of money into my bike's bodywork. The previous owner had apparently taken a few spills that had caused some white stress marks in the plastic. A friend told me to run a heat gun across the stress marks, and it worked-- took the stress marks right out (with no discoloration). It was really fast and REALLY cheap. The friend did tell me to move the gun around alot and use sparingly, as to not melt the plastic-- so be careful. Another fix for broken plastic is drilled holes and zip-ties. It sounds like it would look crappy, but you can experiment with different colors. It really gives your bike some character and is super strong when done correctly. Hope these things help-- if they don't, I sorry for wasting your time. :D
