This weekend created some shakeup in the standings. Lafferty is back where he belongs on top. He was able to improve his position due to the fast SETRA guys and the return of Hawkins. Here is the top five (according to my calculations):

Lafferty 67 points
Hatch 63
Stavish 61
Lykke 53
Russell 48
Tabor 37

Does anyone know if Billy Russell made the trip from California?

Good job Leroy!!

Andy,

Thanks for the help with scoring.

Looking back...Billy Russell must have gotten lost between checks 10 and 11.....he burned check 11 by 23 minutes...

I was at his house on Thursday evening, and he wasn't there. :) There was no bike in the garage either. So, I assumed that he was gone to GA.

I'd hate to burst the orange bubble, but you look at any enduro's results and you'll see a ocean of orange bikes. A big majority of non-sponsered riders ride orange because there is no need to convert the bike for use (saved time and thinking) and for most states the ease of registering for legal enduro riding (the BIG factor, especially in the North East), unlike the big four (this will be changing shortly and not for the better).

Another scoring screw-up. John Barber actually finished 7th overall. (although he was 6th until Hatch managed to get his scorecard and backup sheets changed after the fact. ???)

John barber was a mistake on the online results only, that is being corrected. I am a member of the club, so if you think the backup books were changed for Steve Hatch, you are sorely mistaken. His score was written wrong on the boards, so we went to the backup books and saw that it was wrong and corrected it. That is what backup books are for isn't it?

Your top AA riders routinely question scoring and ask to see the backup sheets.

From a distance it looks like they are "whining" when in reality its any riders right to see their backup score or any other rider's scores.

If they think they have an argument they often win their appeal. The lesson for all of us is if you think you got scored wrong ask to see the backup sheets.

Then why did you refuse to let them see the backup sheets to verify until really pushed to do so? And then it was a quick glance. It appeared from the second or two that they looked at it that it had been changed also. If there was nothing wrong then the club should have been a little more open and considerate to satisfy everyone. People spend a lot of time and money at this level a should not have to wonder if they were treated fairly.

We were a little busy scoring the hundreds of people that finished the event, we didn't need the hassle of occupying someone showing you the backup book when we had already saw it. And I think its a little offensive for you to say that we would have altered the books in favor of Steve Hatch over John Barber. Why would we do that, neither of them are local? What motive would there be? I think you should stop the conspiracy theories.

OK, personally I believe most people do the right thing and believe what you are saying. But again, these guys are basically trying to make a living at this sport and you are saying that you don't think you should not have to take the time to answer their questions. That is NOT acceptable for a national championship event. Someone should MAKE the time to avoid the appearance that this is a bush league sport. That is really my point and it wasn't intended to offend anyone.

I beleive that the club was trying to get all the scores posted before they dealt with any of the problems. That seems to be the norm at most events. I hardly see how that would make this appear to be a "bush" league sport.

Exactly. All scores are posted. Then a one hour protest period is given to all riders (I believe the protest period may vary). Riders should be courteous and wait for the protest period. Disputes are handled in the order they are received. At this point the back up sheets are used to settle any disputes.

Being one of the people who has been responsible for national events and several regional events, I have to side with Mully & Andy. The first priority is to get all the scores up with the most accurate information that is available. If you have ever scored an enduro, you can appreciate what is involved. If you haven't, you have not earned the right to critique the hosting club. Check crews don't always write legibly. Riders will crash the scorecard and the writing gets smeared, etc. Once the scores are posted, you begin the protest period. Then you handle the issues. If you attempt to do this in the scoring process, you tie up several people, you stop the process, you add confusion to the scoring table. As a national level rider, it is your job to understand the rules and situation as much as it is the hosting clubs!

With the little bit of information I have read, it appears that the hosting club did it correctly.

I'm not trying to make this go on forever, but a few of the people who made comments need to reread my last post. Obviously the questioning took place IN the protest period when they didn't want to show the backup sheets. That is why it didn't look right. The comment about people who have never scored an event have no right to say anything is about as ridiculous as saying that anyone who has not built a highway has no right to complain about the bumps in the road. OK, I'm done with this, I won't beat it to death anymore.

no, I remember the group asking to see the backup books and it was well before the announced protest period. It was as soon as we put up Hatch's corrected score.

Lets not beat it to death, but your statements do not add up. I do not see where you stated it was during the protest period. If I missed this please show me my error.

Protest are to be handled in the protest period end of story. This is when you go to the back ups. The way the post read, it appears that the rider was questioning the scores during the scoring period. My statement for people who have never scored an event was just for educational purposes. There is more than enough going on at that time without trying to deal with protest. Riders who attempt to do this just delay the entire process.

PS there is more than 5 guys that spend a lot of time and money at this level. Every entrant deserves to have his score right.

These are your quotes:
