I'm a police officer and I get to see the nastiest side of people. A thread like this not only helps renew my faith in God but also in people. Thanks !

God Bless !

Great topic yz250roost!

I am also a Christian who has just gotten into riding (got my first bike this Christmas at age 26).

I too read the thread about the injured son and was amazed to see the outpouring of prayer offerings. It is very refreshing to hear of people who are into what you are into AND who have similar beliefs.

To the guy who said "Try being moral in high school..." I must agree with the other person who responded to you... stick with it. Hang in there and it will be well worth it. I would have given anything to have been ummm... how should I put it.... less experienced (not that I was very experienced) when I got married to my wonderful wife. It's just something special that you can share with the person taht you decide to spend your life with.

Great Thread Guys!

MooCow, sounds like you have a mature young head on your shoulders, keep at it, you should have a great life ahead of you.

BTW, you may just have to get to the kiss before the wedding, otherwise the lady is going to need a lot of convincing you're SERIOUS :o

No doubt the non religious, non Christians are getting a bit bent out of shape with this one.

Me, I am pretty dang proud of the bunch here who have not stood back, and have declared their faith. These days most people are mocked and derided by a society who could care less, and are intimidated into expressing their faith.

My heart and soul are indeed warmed today. :)

I agree whole heartedly with KTMster's last statement. Part of the reason I haven't set foot in a church in years is because it disgusts me to see people that think just because they spend an hour on sunday in a church, that they are good "christians". You dont need to be "christian" to be a good person or act morally either.
Another thing that bothers me is that most people in this country fail to realize that "christianity" is a minority religion. It being only 2000 years old and practiced by WAY less than half the population of this planet. That leaves BILLIONS of people on this planet that believe in something else.
People in this country have the RIGHT to practice ANY religion they choose......be it christianity, hindu, muslim, wicca, satanism, atheism, or anything else. What people FAIL to realize is that they dont have the right to force there beliefs or values on others.

As a non-religious, basically atheist dirtbike rider, my view on this thread is, it's okay. I will never post my prayers are with you or anything like that, as I grew up in a Christian household and left the church because I don't want to be a hypocrite.

I care deeply about friends & family (even though I'm a slacker & don't spend enough time with family) - that is part of who I am, whether my upbringing taught me that or not is debatable. My husband has pretty much the same values as me and grew up in a different sort of home - dad's christian, mum's not.

Generally I will not read threads with headings like "prayers needed" - I'll read the first post & that's it (just to see who & how got injured). I've met wonderful people both Christian & non-C but have found most non-C have been less hypocritical.
I hope this doesn't offend anyone, it's just my 02c and Bundu's post made me want to reply as a non-C. BTW, I go to church just about every week - the forest is my place of sanctity :p

I'm an athiest too and I have also talked and listened to some religious types who can understand what it means to be an athiest. I have a lot of respect for christians with that kind of vision. Otoh, I've had more than my share of people who tell me "god loves me", pretend their beliefs make them superior, or who otherwise try to shove their beliefs down my throat. That sort of behaviour REALLY annoys me.

Good luck with your religion if you have one. If it works for you, I'm happy for you :)

Study comparing the Christian life to riding

Years ago, I wrote put together a little piece on comparing living the Christian life to dirt bike riding. It was really pretty neat discussing stuff like keeping the power on a little when riding a downhill, steady throttle through mudholes, stuff like that. If anyone would be interested in it, send me a personal message. Its not for sale, no commercial stuff here. Just a guy who loves the Lord and dirt bikes.

By the way, in the mid-70's I was co-captain of our high school Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It was great reading the roster where each member listed their name and sports. This guy was into football and basketball. The next guy was track and football. Another guy was into football and something else. I came in with "enduro and motocross." Big laughs in the locker room.

I attended a Baptist college, complete with a 125cc Monark (who remembers those 6-speed, 6-neutral wonders?), custom van and long hair. In the mid-70's it was a goal to convince some that dirt bikes, vans and long hair did NOT equate to drugs and such. And, I even spent some time as a Baptist missionary in the early 80's. By this time, though, I had moved up to a Yamaha IT but still had the van and most of the hair.

Some of my greatest friends ride dirt bikes. Do we share the same passion for the Lord? Some yes. Some probably not. Doesn't change a thing for me. I love them for who they are. By and large dirt bikers are the nicest, most generous people around. Quite frankly, some folks at my church could learn a lesson or two from my "non-churched" dirt bikers.

Let's go riding!

It sounds like alot of you have been "burnt" by hypocritical people. Please don't let that keep you from loving the Lord and obeying his will. There are hypocrites in every aspect of life. Don't let then ones in religion scare you off. I don't keep myself from riding just because there are some 17 year old punks that talk big about doing triples and have a brand new bike, but in reality they haven't even got past 2nd gear. (That was just an example...I'm not hounding anyone.)

I hate the fact that people are turned off by hypocrites. It makes it very hard for those who are really doing what's right and trying to help others to do what's right. But always keep in mind that no one is perfect. EVERYONE sins. Even the best Chrisitians. So don't let someone elses sin cause you to sin. That person may have a real problem and trying hard to over come that problem, and you happen to be witnessing their struggle. On the other hand, there are people who willingly sin and do nothing but harm other Christians, non-C, and the church.

Please don't let people turn you away. God is the one who is calling. God is the one we have to answer to, according to the Bible. With Hell being as bad as it is...and Heaven being as great as it is...I don't want to take any chances. Know what I mean?

Study the Word of God
Spend quite time in prayer
Let the Holy Spirit be your guiding light (even if it convicts you)
Overcome that which binds you to sin (You can only serve one Master)
Fellowship
Agape (God's special love toward you and your reflection of that love toward others)
Praise God and serve the Lord

Agape

BTW I am far from perfect, hence the name "needs prayer"

Michelle, That is a good observation.

I say that because we all mess up, Christians included. Just because a person is a Christian dosen't mean they don't mess up from time to time or that they are better than anyone else. If someone ever makes you feel that they are better than you because they are a Christian, I apologize for them to you. My pastor told us during a service one time that he talked to someone who said they don't go to church because it's full of hypocrites. He replied that our church was full of recovering hypocrites, which is true. No one can walk on this earth with a perfectly blameless life, committing no sin or never have a bad thought, nobody. The only one who has ever or will ever do this is Jesus Christ himself. I assure you if you go into a church and ask the Pastor about it, he will tell you that people will fail from time to time and be hypocritical in their lives. That is something that every Bible believing Christian tries to eliminate. The only problem is that we can never eliminate it on our own while we are on this earth. We need a savior to take that sin from us who is Jesus Christ. Now with that said does that mean that when we find Him we will become totally perfect and never make a mistake here on this earth? Not a chance.

So with that, I don't want you to think that you shouldn't go into a church because you would be a hypocrite, everybody who first stepped in the door was and don't you think otherwise. There are many good people in a church that you probably already know and I hope you re-think it and give it a chance. PM me if you want.

Mike (recovering hypocrite) T

As it should bother you. I think you just came into contact with a few overly excited people who were.......not too tactful in their approaches. Sorry that you had those experiences. I will also be one to tell you that we are NOT superior to ANYONE. Sorry bud.
