being Christian also means being an example, regardless of where you are or what you are doing. Many people think being one requires you to isolate yourselves from anyone who is not. On the contrary, look at the Man Himself. Hung out with the lowest of the low in those days and admonished those who thought they were better than everyone else.
I have seen some who call themselves Christians abuse other people. How do you think that makes the rest of us feel who claim to be Christian?

The Word tells us to love the Lord with all your heart, strength and mind.
Secondly, to love others as yourself.

no magic pill there. If anyone can manage to do the first w/o including the second commandment I've never seen it.

besides, have you ever come up short on a double and not thought about God?

Being a christian rider, and having a couple of good christian friends to ride with is an awesome thing. Its nice to see that there are more of you dudes out there!

To the kid that said its tough to live right in highschool: TRY COLLEGE! Its not to bad really, but if you weren't set in your faith you could go WAY off track fast.

Most all religions have some form of God or Gods and prayer. Just because a fellow dirt biker or human for that matter includes you in their communication with their higher power does not make them a Christian. Maybe they don't even prescribe to a recognized religion as most people would define it but they still have wishes or hopes for some body’s well being.

Very true Patman.

DRN does impress me with their concern for other people though.

I am a New Testament Christian and a member of the Lord's Church. I've wanted to post something like what Patman just did, I've just never had the guts. I figured it would get deleted or I would get flamed bigtime...and I'm not one for flaming.

On another note. I would LOVE to get into racing harescrambles. The fact that I'm a Christian keeps me from racing. All harescrambles are on Sundays. I've even thought about trying to start my own Saturday series, but doubt that it would get any support. Anyone else in the same boat as me, or am I a loner?

I'm impressed you guys are so open about your faith. At the other web site I go to that shall remain un-named I get flamed and called brainwashed for believeing in god. It's amazing what the age difference here does to people, people here have a better grounding it seems.

I'm in that boat. I want to race this year but I have a feeling that most of the races will be on Sunday. I have heard a few places have Saturday night stuff. I Love going to church and I don't like to miss.:)

This thread does put a bit of a conviction on me, I am a Christian but dont do a good job as a example! Maybe its time to start being a better example of one.

Sorry to all I have offended in rude posts.

I too hate missing church on sunday to race, there are bible study groups that meet during the week and I try to participate in that. If I miss a few sundays I dont feel too discontected .

Sincerely
Marc

The "Church of Reason" is a name for any school. It was a concept developed by Robert M. Pirsig in his book "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintainence".

Attend Saturday services or do as another parish member and I have done, have your own service at the track. It's not the act of going, but the act of observance (all week long for that matter)-which can be done just about anywhere. Now roost on with a clear conscience:)

Some how I really think he would cut you some slack , who knows he might even enjoy watching, beside you don't have to go to his house to go to church.

I don't mind the races on Sundays because I never go to church. I've been a few times but it left a sour taste in my mouth. Maybe someday I will go, but for now I stay as far away from them as I can.

Hmmmm . . . For some reason, when I maintain my bike, I'm not feeling all that "Zen", though me and the "Big Guy" have had a few chats now and then during these episodes. :D

I hope He don't hold it against me! We usually get past any hard feelings over a beer, though. :)

yz250roost, as soon as I get my membership forms I'll email you the address for CMA. It's mostly ex-bikers, these are the guys you'll see at Sturgis, Bike Week or any number of rallies around the country ministering to those in need. We have a local chapter here any many of them attend our church, so that is how I found out about them. Lots of good responses, agree or disagree, I appreciate the level of maturity most all of the members have here. Makes me glad I decided to join DRN!

OK, without turning this into a sermon...I'll be as breif and sensitive as I can. There definately is more to being a Christian than going to worship. But, the New Testament instructs those obeying to worship on "the first day of the week". And part of it, is the act of going. Participating in fellowship with other brethren, and encouraging one another in song and prayer, and also observing the Lord's supper. I have actually thought about having a trackside service, but I'm not quite up to preaching in front of large audiences...yet. I've taught bible class and devotionals, but haven't got the guts up to preach yet.

I don't think so.

Please, Please, Please...If anyone has specific comments to me about what I've just posted...email me or PM me. I don't want this to turn into a religious debate on the pages of DRN. I just had to let everyone know where I stand.

You will after you read this book! Actually, there's not much about Zen or motorcycle maintainence in the book but it really changed my life and I would suggest the book to anyone willing to open their mind. It's a journey that you won't soon forget.

What we really need to work on is having church first thing Saturday morning, this would no doubt set the tone for the weekend.

I am in the same boat, after staying away from church for nearly 20 years, my family and I have started attending again just this December, right about the time my boy got really excited about dirt biking. Needless to say, we have committed as a family, not to have dirtbiking interfere with our Sunday service.

We just have to make the most of our Saturdays :)

I basically agree with the post by cal, my place on Sunday is in Church with my family, teaching 3-4 year olds with my wife. Then going to worship as a family. I am not knocking anybody if you are comfortable with the way you operate now. Each person has to answer to the lord not to me or anyone else here. But I would love to race and occasionally (2X's) a year will. But sure do miss it. Just my 2 cents worth. Rob

Hey yz250Roost....

Good topic, And we are a Christian family. I knew there were lots of 'prayin folks' here hense my posting for Pat. As as a side note, the track where Pat races(not where he crashed) holds a short bible reading and time of prayer before every race... Way cool and greatly impressed me.
Have a good one, God bless.
