Clarke tank on a 96 KDX 200

I'm picking up a plated KDX in a couple of weeks and one of the first things I want to do is get rid of the purple tank and add one with more capacity. I see the IMS tank is 95-06, but I don't really like the shrouds they make you use. The Clarke says it fits 97-07. I checked the parts list and the 96 200 and the 97 220 share the exact same part number for the tank. Shouldn't the Clarke also fit a 96 if the OEM tank is the same and the IMS tank fits both years? Anyone have a Clarke tank on a 96?

BTW, this is my first post here. Looking forward to learning a lot about this bike. The plate is going to open up more trails that I can ride, I don't plan on using the bike as an adventure riding type of dual sported bike. My other bike is a YZ 250. Long live the smoker!!!!

If 96 and 97 share tank and shrouds then it stands to reason that the clarke tank should fit both as well. The shrouds would be the only thing I could see that wouldn't fit between the years.
