I recently purchased a new Yamaha YZF. I also sent in my registration for their Contingency program (about 6 weeks ago). Two weeks ago I placed well enough in a sponsored race to earn a Contingency award. How do you go about claiming the award? The points officer said that the results had been sent in. Do I have to send in some type of claim form? There wasn't any clear instructions on the registration form other than to simply send it in. There wasn't any information about this on the Yamaha website either. I apologize for my ignorance but the concept of winning something other than a trophy is new to me. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I believe Honda is the only factory that requires a claim form every race. All others just wait for the results from the promoter. It's been my experience that the first time you get contingency, it takes up to 4 weeks. After that, 1-2 weeks. Congrats on the contingency.

I think you have to check with the promoter of the race. He will help you get the contingency stuff filed. Keep in mind....sometimes you have to "register" for it BEFORE the race.

With that said, I'm gonna turn this into a flame. Contingencies have ruined racing..............................huh? Bill, what the %%&* are you talking about? What's wrong with "free" money.
Here's what's wrong: Becasuse some get paid for finishing in the top 3 positions in a race, you now have:
-B-Class riders in the C Class
-A-Class riders in the B Class
-Ex pro riders in the A Class.
In other words.......... SCUMBAG SANDBAGGERS!!
It used to be "of honor" to say "I ride in the A-Class". Now it's of false honor to gloat "I'm an A-Class rider sandbagging in the B-Class for $$$.
And some racing organizations refuse to do much, if anything about it. :( :think
