Hi,

I have two years of riding experience, most of which has been on a 2001 XR250R. I recently took it to a motocross track because i couldnt wait and wanted to try it really bad. Needless to say, an XR250 isn't exactly a motocross bike at all. I found myself not being able to clear any jumps but came somewhat close to most of them. My question is, I've decided that I want either a CR125 or CR250. My budget is 2000. I am 6'0 200 lbs. Would I be able to ride the CR125 on an average MX track successfully. On the other hand would I be able to control the power of the CR250? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Go with the 250. The 125 will be too small for you and you will wish you had bought the 250 once you get used to it. Your 200 pounds so the 250 shouldn't have too much power for you.

I don't know guys? I been riding a xr400 for almost 6 years and just picked up a '00 yz125 thats 100% stock. Holly cow! This thing moves! I had no idea how fast these newer(to me) 125's are. On an open track you will have no problems but if going in the woods you may want the 250 which i'm sure has a ton more bottom end than a 125. BTW, i'm 6ft and 200lbs.

CR125/ DRZ owner

I have ridden thousands of mile on DRZ400's and just picked up a mint 2001 CR125R, for play purposes. I can say that a FMF fatty pipe was a must for low end power increase, but it is one of the most fun bikes I have ever ridden. It lacks the top end speed of the 450's but up to about 40mph, it's FAST and Fun. It could use more power in deep mud, but then again, shifting is half the fun of riding.

I say rock the 250. I made a cr250r my FIRST bike and I got use to the power quickly. I'm glad I bought it first and not a smaller bike. I'm 6'1" and 225. I just got a new(to me) 03 cr250r....and dangit...I just love em! great bike for our size. You can handle it.
