CR250 enduro conversion

Anybody built up a 2002 cr250 (or CRE) enduro bike yet? I mean for use in tight woods (like 30+ minutes in 1st gear dropping of the side of a mountain over muddy slippery rocks better suited to a trials bike) as well as slamming though whoops in overused ORV park trails. Any luck getting the jetting to be clean and have the bike idle unattended? Anybody put on a lighting coil (for lights or hotgrips)? Any weak spots to lookout for? How about flywheel weights, what have you used? Success with Race Tech Gold Valves (I prefer to do my own bike setup whenever possible)?
I'm trying to decide if I can make a cost effective (< $8,000) equal to a european enduro bike using the Honda .

I don't have anything on a Honda specifically, but you may know that I ride a YZ250 converted to a woods machine and it works very well. You may not care for Yamahas so I won't get into any specifics here, but if you are interested give me a shout via email. We have not set any of them up for lights in the three that we converted but we do have wide ratio trans and other goodies.

My son and his family live in Bellingham and I ride with Alan Drafs and his son-in-law Scott from time to time out there. So if you're interested, the next time I'm up there with my scoot you're welcome to try it.

I moved from my KTM to a '02 YZ250 and love it. I race the SETRA series.

** Factory Connection suspension (I would do this to the KTM also)

Have ridden '02 cr250 in the bush for a few months now. Changes include 4.6kg. rear spring and .41 front springs. GREAT bush bike!! Clean jetting with 380 main #30 pilot. Comp.front and back soft, rebound middle. Will add flywheel weight after ice-racing finishes. This bike with 12 front is much easier to ride slow than last yz 250 we converted. Very light. I am a Trials rider also so I know slow! Have also lowered back 1 1/4in. and front 1in. Having had a 220 kdx and wr250f last year also, I much prefer the '02 cr 250.

That is kinda what I've been looking for.
Canvet, I think you probably know what I'm looking for. Quite a few riders around here actually use the Michelin trials tire on their enduro bikes for traction, it can be that slippery. I've ridden the GG txt250 on some of our trails and acutally go faster. Don't get me wrong, I'm not that slow (I am an "A" enduro rider), but I'm getting old enough that I don't want to put up with abusive handling.
The YZ is also an excellent option.

Any newer mx bike with soft suspension and proper gearing will work for the bush. We now ride the Honda because it is the lightest 250 and the seat height is 2 1/2in. lower than the Yamaha stock. I also race in the toughest cross-countries around here with a Sherco Trials bike and am usually near the front. Most riders dont realize that you just need ENOUGH power, not way too much power!! I have passed many riders in fast sections with my Trials bike and always pass riders stuck in mud holes as the Trials bike never gets stuck..At 75lbs. lighter than mxer, more riders should be on Trials bikes!

yep...my dad and i set one up, WER suspension, 5mm(?) exhaust spacer, 14oz flywheel weight, and bars and bark busters of your choice...its awesome now
