I suspect that the crankcase seal on the clutch side of my '00 220 is going. Excessive smoking and plug fouling eventhough my jetting is really lean for these colder temperatures. It looks as though the left side seal has to be replaced from the inside (splitting the cases) but does the clutch side seal come out in the same manner or can it be done without splitting the cases. Thanks for any info.

First of all you should be jetting richer for the colder temps because the air is more dense when cold so you need more fuel. Secondly, yes you have to split the case to do it right, but it is not as hard as everyone seems to make it sound. Just buy a flywheel puller from your dealer and then you can fasion up a puller to split the case or buy the expensive "case splitting tool". I did mine and it went fine. Good luck.
