Nikki - that sucks about your crash. I know b/c I am still healing from my broken hand. Just take your time and don't rush getting healed up. If you do rush it before you are 100%, you'll just hurt it again and be off the bike even longer.
FWIW - They are going to have to mobilize my hand because it is frozen and can't move. I postponed the procedure for ~3 weeks b/c of work. Basically they are gonna shoot it up and get it numb then FORCE it to move. I'll be in P/T every day after that.
I can't wait b/c it sounds like soooo much fun. :-/ Here it is in July and I am still not 100% and I broke my hand the last w/e in April...
Sorry to hear that Nikdog. While you are recovering you might want to try some gymnastics. What's that called when you have those two rings in your hands
Nikki, there comes a time when.....pffft never mind, the speech didn't work on me either :)
See, if I had flown in and went to the race with you guys, I could have put "BE SAFE" on the pit board, then you wouldn't have crashed. It's all my fault :whiner:
I guess I'll have to add you to my list of prayers too. Get well soon. "you go girl"
I'm not having a go at you, however I have to agree with JasonJ. You need to give yourself enough time to recover properly. Unfortunately the desire to get back on the bike gives us the "She'll be right mate" attitude. I know, I've done it myself.
I was there and saw it! Well, I didn't see the crash, but I saw you down there afterwards. I immediately thought about how you had just come off your previous injury . Be careful and don't get on the Travis Pastrana streak... :scream: :) Heal quickly! Hope to see you riding at Red Bud next year!
Personally, I thought that rhythm section coming out of the first corner after the finish line looked like the most difficult obstacle on that track. Saw plenty of riders going down HARD there. At least you made it through those all right! Those oversized whoops are NASTY!
Hey everyone... DAMNIT!!!! I just had to get that off my chest.
Yesterday was a good day... went on a Lake Michigan boat cruise with work, was finally picking up my arm about 90% range of motion on my own (with pain near my bicept/elbow at the low end of the stroke), and was real excited that with some stretching and work that I might be good to go in a few weeks.
Well... while stretching and stuff last night I got stupid. Was doing range of motion circles (up, away, down, in and out, up, in, down) with some handlebars. The whole concept is your good arm leads the movement and your bad arm kinda follows/goes through the motions. So I was feeling pretty good so I decided to pull my good arm away some and try. Not a good idea. As I hit the downstroke where I have the pain, my arm and the bars dropped to the ground like someone just put a 100 lb. weight in my hand. To top it off was a loud ripping sound like someone tore a 2 inch strip of a bed sheet in half. The noise scared the crap outta me as I know it couldn't be good. It sounded like the rip noise came from the bicept area.
So I decided to go to bed and... along came the pain. (Note there was no pain at rest for the past week, just when moved funny). I couldn't get comfortable and had constant throbbing in whatever muscle is underneath my collarbone. After a tossing and turning night, I checked things out this morning. Again, I can't lift my arm on my own and it's just uncomfortable at all times now. But the pain seems to be in the same area as before (bicept/elbow) only much worse now so who knows.
Guess I'll be visiting a doctor in the next week or so to see WTF the rip noise was. Damnit! Cooperland is what... 12 weeks? :|
MikeT - nah insurance coveres most of it... but the 10% co-pays and whatnot sure add up. Plus it's a PITA trying to get time off work. Congrats on the new baby - hey were you at Red Bud? JP mentioned that Oldguy was talking to Mike "insert one letter here" can't remember if it was you. If it was I'm pissed that I didn't get to meet ya (and wondering how your wife let you away that close to the due date)!
Jeff (and grinch) - wow sorry to hear about the hand progress... that really sucks dude! Hope things get better soon! Yeah I hear ya on rushing things... I definetely was back in the full swing of things a little earlier than I should have been. Now I might be paying for it big time :(
MrLuckey - :moon:
Walt - glad to hear you're gonna be riding again soon!! That's great news!
motometal - very true I hate when I leave a track and say "man I shoulda tried that jump". No one said anything about clearing them smooth, right? ;)
SirT - damnit dude it's all your fault!!
fender - Pastrana streak... no kidding. I'm gonna stay outta fast cars. Yeah that front section was pretty crazy I think I was able to get one double down in the middle like twice. Overally though I thought the new track layout was really cool (the track was backwards and all different after like 5+ years of being pretty much the same).
Nikki...I gotta give you credit girl, I would not be doing anything but babying my arm if I got injured like that. Seriously though, take it easy and get to a doctor. The sooner you catch the problem the sooner you may be able to remedy it.
I wish you luck in everything and a speedy recovery.
Yeah, I was pretty surprised to see it changed around and running the opposite way. I was almost bummed when I saw it, but after watching the races, I realized that not only was it somewhat safer than it was before (that tunnel jump on the corner right before the finish was a KILLER! The first practice session I ever saw there some kid went over it too fast, got thrown off the bike, and broke one or both of his legs), but it was also more fun to watch. Change is good :thumb:
