crf150 expert or kx100

Ok so i think its come down to the crf150 expert or a kx100. Im going to be riding on alot of powerlines and fire trails and bogs ect. Which bike is going to be faster? which bike is going to have more acceleration? They both the same relative seat height. I was looking at 125 two stroke but they are all too tall for me.

I know the crf is a four stroke, is it going to be a pain in the ass for me to take care of and maintain? ( this is my first bike )

Well I've never ridden a kx100 but I think theyre faster than the 150, assuming your talking about the crf150r bigwheel, if your talking about the crf150f then the kx100 is MUCH faster and has more acceleration.

adding on, Rich's 150R list on maintenance for it was very disturbing, 15 hour valve checks :yikes: . i would love to be able to ride one, but not own it. the KX100 is also much cheaper and you can actually find them used, and if you do come across a used 150R, its either blown up or its only a couple hundred under MSRP.

15 hour valve checks means a valve check after every 15 hours of riding. if it were me, i'd be checking those valves constantly. not too harsh if you ask me.

The KX100 might need a top end a year, at $109.99

The CRF150R will cost you $500 plus for a top end.

The KX100 will give you more bang for your buck.

Yeah the KX100 is a more friendly bike in the work department. It also has a good amount of bottom end for a mini.

Chris, I was in your same situation and narrowed it down to the same two bikes. I chose the KX simply due to economics. Plus the KX has been out for about 10 years, lots of parts available, possibility of finding good used cheap specimens, etc.

well the crf 150 thats bassically competion for the 2 stroke 85s so I would say go with kx 100 2 strokes almost always start too thats why I like em

Buy the two-stroke! As other people have elaborated, the maintenance costs are far cheaper. In relation to your fast question, my sister has a big wheel kx-100 with a FMF Fatty pipe and Q-silencer, with stock jetting, and it'll run side by side in a drag race with my KX-250 until it runs out of gears. Plenty quick for most people. In the end, the decision is yours! Your dad will probably be happier helping pay for the maintenance on the two-stroke also! Cheers, and happy riding!

You mean ill be happier dumpin money into a 2 stroke over a 4, im about to be 19, dad doesnt drop his money into my recreational fun, its all me now.

But ur point still makes a point, id rather pay the 100 for a top end over 500 :ohmy:

In some casses yes you do. If you race hard you might do it sooner. But most people do not ride them to that margine so it would be a year plus.

If both bikes were ridden the same way, by identical riders, the KX would cost less per hour to run. Rich is very knowledgable about this bike and can give more detailed explainations.

by looking at you sig., you dont have on either. dont bash people just because theyre short, they were born that way and they cant help it. if you want to troll, go somewhere else.

so, even if you dont, the top-end of a 150R is $500 while the KX100's is $100, thats 5 times as much. for those prices to balance out each other, youd have to replace your 150R's top-end once every 5 years while the KX100 would need it once a year :nener: . most people who are buying the CRF150R are racing them, unlike the KX100 which is rarely raced by its buyers. so you could very well be replacing the 150R's top-end more often than the KX100's if youre racing.

Yeah i have a friend that races his KX85 in the 125 class because he can hardly touch the ground on the 85 yet a 125. You know what he sometimes even comes 5th or better.

adding on to that: the fastest racer alive presently is only 5'7'', JBS. and RC was only 5'4''-5'5'', and theyre both racing 450's.

Yea, im 5' 4" and about 115 to 120 pounds. I was sitting on my buddies rm125 last night and i can get one foot down on the ground and kickstart with the other but its just a struggle for me to stand there. Another thing is ive never really been riding before and i am sure a 125 will pop up very easy on me. My buddy said his rm125 pops up on him sometimes expecialy when hes going up hills in low gears and this dude is like 190 pounds so i can only imagine how easy a 125 will pop up on me expecialy with my lack of experience in general.

dont let people get you down like slater. i was only 5'4'' when i bought my 125 and im glad i did. plus, do you really have to be touching the ground while riding :think: ?
