Crf450r VS. Yz450F

im debating whether to get a used 02 Crf450r or an 04 Yz450F

what do you guys think will be better??

i ride on dirt trails, and some times on sand or on the track(though i really suck at it....lol)

i weigh 195 pounds...5' 9' or somthing like that

oh ya..how bad is maintenence on these bikes? iv got time on my hands and work at an auto shop so pretty much any tool ill need.... so ya

ehhh..xr's are great and all (i own one) but a 650 is too much power and wieght for the trail...i only ride sand 50% of the time, and i just started since my brother moved and when i go over to visit i can go ride the sand

Totally depends what kind of shape the bikes are in. Keep in mind the 04 YZ450F was a BRUTE powerwise.

When your buying used, always go for the cleanest and newest bike that fits your budget.

In this case, I'm betting that the YZ-450 is better if it's in decent shape.

But if your not racing then why bother with a MXer?

The CRf-450x and WR-450 really are good woods bikes, and they have electric starting. Even more so, they should already come with a USFS approved silencer, and that alone will save you $400 or more.

i know what ur saying zig06 and i would consider getting a more trail oriented bike, but first, im looking for a bike thats light and flickable, and second, i could not find even one 450x on craigslist (hmmmm) ?!? and the WR's iv seen are far to heavy

While both of those are excellent bikes, I don't think either would be described as light and flickable by most riders.

If those characteristics are a priority for you, go buy a late model 125 MX bike. You won't be disappointed.

Or a 250 two-stroke if you want more power than a 125. 450's (even the MXers) are not exactly light and flickable. Look at either 125 class bikes (125s or 250Fs) or a 250 two-stroke if you still want lots of power.

My vote would go to a 250t if your wanting light and flickable. I had an 02' Crf450 and am your height, but 30lbs lighter. It was too much bike in the woods and I was NOT impressed with its turning abilities. It had a real problem with pushing the front end in the corners.

I would go for the 250t and the money saved turn around and have a big bore kit put in it. Not as lite and flickable as a 125 but way better than a 4t. Power should never be an issue after properly modded.

Given those chioces usually the newer is the best choice.Were these bikes raced? If so, was the rider a beginner ,intermediate or an expert.? The better the rider the more the abuse factor. Faster riders will ride at higher rpm's and push the suspension harder. Has either bike had a rebuild etc... lots to consider. When you go to look at the bikes take an experienced mx racer with you if you can to look at the bikes. Also search the web for articles on how and what to buy used.Does either of these bikes have a particular item that needs addressing like more frequent valve adjustment, handling issues etc.The more research you do the better you will know the traits of these bikes. Now that they have been out a few years there are numerous articles and tips to help you decide. Above all be honest with yourself.What type of riding are you really going to do most of the time? If you don't have plans on racing alot don't get a race bike! You will be much happier with a woods/offroad bike.

the bad thing is that most woods/trail bikes (crf-x mostly) are out of my price range........and the WR's iv seen are way too heavy.....and i cant really get a mx 2-stroke.....sorry all you die hard 2 stroke guys out there but...... strokers before smokers

I would have no problem buying a bike from a racer. Racers usually maintain their bikes well so their bikes are preforming their best.

i think your both right....iv seen bikes beat up and batered by racers, but also ones that have had a very strict maintenence schedule that are kept in a pretty good condition

My opinion,
I have an 07 yz 450f, its got enough power. Its not super light, but you can get used to it. I ride it in the sand half the time and i ride on the dirt half the time. I love riding it on the sand. Its got enough power to go anywhere. I also heard the crf 450s are nice, but im a yamaha guy...and i love my 450.

If you are buying a used 4 stroke make sure ALL of the maintenece has been done religiuosly... It would suck to buy a bike and find out that the oil wasnt changed regularily.. check into it!

go with the yamaha.....
and stick with 4-strokes....
