If people who step up and help when it's time, work together to make this place better and become friends as a result constitutes an "IN CROWD" then so be it. I wish there were more IN PEOPLE because last time I checked friends who look out for each other are pretty hard to find.

It seems to me the only people who are excluded are the ones who choose to be. ;)

I'm usually the target of abuse! Hell.... I was welcomed to DW02 by being fired at. That's messed up man!

I guess that means I'm not part of the "in" crowd :uh: .

Dang, and all this time I thought that DRN people are the IN crowd, and everyone else is, well, everyone else.

 Wait a minute, that really is the way things are!! :) :yeehaw:

Ok, I'm convinced.

Bubba's a jerk, gun safety for everybody, and let's smear mud on Patman's bikes.

I got my share of initiation grief when I came. Either you find your own level of comfort or move on...it's no big deal. Like NGE, I am sure I deserved a little bit of what I got. Heck, I'm not even in the "in crowd" that I am aware of and I was the one giving him the most grief in the gun thread.

Actually, to cut to the chase, I agree with Rich.

It seems to me the only people who are excluded are the ones who choose to be.

Group hug time.....just don't touch me.

Was that posted in jest? If not, I have no idea where that attitude would come from. You listed some of the best people I know.

Yes Okie!

You mention that "I have no idea where that attitude would come from" and those are the best people "you" know!
The whole reason I started this is to express my concern that an attitude is perceived, and yet no one sees it or wants to acknowledge it might be there.
So put your self in a new members shoes, reading threads that have the dog pile effect from mods and support team members or a mod chastising a registrant! What are they thinking, they are not thinking these are the best people "they" know.

All I know is I calls 'em as I sees 'em. And if I get called as I'm seen (and brother have I ever been called) it's no sweat to moi. I wouldn't expect it (or want it) any other way.

smiffy, I do think you have taken far to much offense from what's going on. (JMO)
This is a community, and unless I misread the sign at the door, it's not Nirvana.

As far as the cases in point....NGE is a moderator from another forum looking for a job (again JMO)
He knows squat about squat, and when he gets one tidbit of info he jumps on the wagon to give the same advise to others. I mean really..."whats those Shcrader valve thingys" in one post, and decribing all the seal problems he's seen the next week. (please)
"Are jets returnable items?" " Wait...I've got the lowdon now and I'll help you get your carb sorted out"
(double please)
No biggie, but then he starts calling folks who are good people(in-crowd or not) names that they far from deserved. That is where the mule balks with me.

The jj dad is prolly a good guy who just got his panties wadded up over an authograph...but good lord folks, he's bitchin about the actions of a kid! (has anyone noticed Bubba is not an adult yet?)

Anywho, I am actually quite proud of myself....I havn't called anyone a bonehead in THREE WEEKS!

Well....I actually did but, the guy had PM's turned off. :)

I got this as an email from a newbie we hired after he has met with resistance to changing the world over to his ways.

THINK ABOUT THIS ONE!
Start with a cage containing five monkeys. Inside the cage, hang a banana on a string and place a set of stairs under it. Before long, a monkey will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana. As soon as he touches the stairs, spray all of the other monkeys with cold water.

After a while, another monkey makes an attempt with the same result all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon, when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other monkeys will try to prevent it.

Now, put away the cold water. Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs. To his surprise and horror, all of the other monkeys attack him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs, he will be assaulted.

Next, remove another of the original five monkeys and replace it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm! Likewise, replace a third original monkey with a new one, then a fourth, then the fifth. Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs, he is attacked. Most of the monkeys that are beating him have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs or why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey.

After replacing all the original monkeys, none of the remaining
monkeys have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, no monkey ever again approaches the stairs to try for the banana. Why not? Because as far as they know that's the way it's always been done around here.

And that, my friends, is how a company policy begins.

I replied:
So every monkey should be allowed to do whatever they want with total disregard for the others because that is what each monkey wants? Maybe the other monkeys know something that the new monkey doesn’t? Maybe if the monkeys worked together and untied the string from the banana they could all live happily ever after? Do you think all the monkeys would hang out waiting to get doused if they were not in a cage? Now if all you want is a banana and you'll shut up let me know and I'll run to the produce department and buy a crate of them. Besides monkeys throw their poop, I have higher expectations.

The whole reason I started this is to express my concern that an attitude is perceived, and yet no one sees it or wants to acknowledge it might be there.

But it has been discussed many times. The last go around netted the "welcome" forum for newbies and a request to welcome them. (unless of course they spam, troll or personally insult others)

....and BTW, the quote is: SOME of the best people I know. Do you actually think if you walked-up and introduced yourself to anyone on that list you'd get insulted? What am I missing here? I believe the opposite to be true.

I understand and appreciate the fact that you have an issue with the forum and you're speaking up about it, I'm just not sure what it is and what to do about it.

I'm really not sure I understand how this thread is different from some in the past... "Here is the problem" with no real "Here is the answer". How do you make friends not appear to be friends? (meaning act like friends). Is it the answer to disregard friendships so not to potentially alienate new people? How should this be handled in real life? Say at DW? Everyone act like they don't know anybody to make the newbs feel more comfortable? We were ALL newbs at one point. DW is the perfect place to become friends with DRN'ers, not to mention all the other group rides around the country. No, newbs are given a "Automatic Friendship" ticket when the join DRN, they aren't in their "normal" life either.

We're talking about some people that have known each other, many in real life as a result of the forums, for 5 years or so, how can a "group" not form? Some of us have even seen each others kids grow-up and been there when some of us passed. It's hard to hide friendships like that and frankly, I won't.

Maybe I'm going way over-board here, but this subject has in fact been around for a long time and not once have I heard the answer.

I sure don't know what it is.

The perception is that if you have a picture by your name you already are "in" so welcome to the club! Now let's go find some new kids to take milk money from and run their BVD's up the flag pole!!

Damn it's good to be in

I sure am glad MadEarthWorm didn't feel like you. Hell, he drove from Maryland to SC just to meet us. He was only on the board a month or so before Gomer met him and showed him how to ride.

Damn... how much of an ass can we be if he wanted to drive that far.

I sure am glad James had the tough skin to stick around after I told him point blank "...if you don't like it, leave..." Now he is one of my closest friends online and in person. We still argue a lot and it is some of the greatest discussions I have.

I could go on but I think it is understandable that those who want to be here are here. Those who are a little more think skinned don't stick around.

I understand why a lot of people are intimidated. I do my best to change it. You will notice that even Rich does not jump on someone the first time. However, there are times we will jump on people. It has to be done by the mods and sometimes by the members (even though we try to keep that from getting out of hand).

It is unfortunate that some of the new members will see it and get intimidated but the only other alternative is to allow a free for all and I've seen that and it is not pretty.

PS... just an example of what DRN and the "in" crowd is all about.

http://truespode.net/pics/video/lori_memorial_small.wmv

For those wondering, many of the people thanked were not DRN regulars, many are not even on DRN monthly and some not at all. Many drove from Michigan, NY, Maryland and many other places to support one guy.

Her spirit is what DRN is about. Anybody that needs help will get it. B/C of the people I met, I am proud to be part of DRN, the in crowd, the out crowd and the Gomers :)

I often get quite religious while riding my motorcycle.

However I've also been known to lose my religion and be very politically incorrect while I work on my motorcycle. :)

well this whole thing has turned to crap! caca' feces. what started out with some promise, the in crowd fighting it out, has turned to crap.No name calling or hyper-profanity.crap.Yes, if you are in on this discussion(turned from argument) you are the "in" crowd.Shut up and accept its responsibilities and duties Smith! the beauty (as i chatted about in the pit) is we've got people that feel so strongly towards this site and it's continued good growth that they are willing to stand up and take on the "wolf pack". Yeh, i'm part of the wolf pack, RoarRich is the Alpha male of the wolf pack. we are so deadly and intimidating that poor old Smith was skeered crapless about posting in this thread. heck, he even put his family in federal witness protection and has been typing in wi-fi from a moving box van to elude detection .I doubt he'll make it through the week. I'm betting mad-bastage Dr. "Dick"roar-rich is perfecting a moto-bot assasin to hunt Smith down, ala terminator. These are dangerous times indeed fellow posters! NOT! this is the life blood of this site, with out people like Smith and Mr. Luckey maybe we would loose more perspective about conginiality. Crap, I swear to god i am trying to be sincere, but being such a smart ass i can see it loosing some sincerity in some eyes. You outlaw crowd has swayed me some. i wouldn't redact one bit of my response to NGE's AD tiraid, but i will quit sending Irish "come back soon" e-mail, just trying to stir up the crap....Now, if you guys don't start smoking the rev limiter with deep biting profanity and personal attacks then quit posting, please. We can't even work up a real good fight here anymore. It's just not the same with me not drinking anymore. Drunken chat fights with James was the bread of my existance....now...birdwatching. :uh:

Stick a potatoe in your blow-hole, sarege! ;) Try to be civilized to a troll, the madness only ends with the mods click. If they choose to comment, big deal. Trolls are trolls. I really needed some relaxing tonite and hearing Rich let loose gives me goosebumps on my :moon: . NGE didn't like his questions answered nicely, I attempted to. Alas, Ivan and Okie stepped in, made definitive opine then slamed the door.
I was looking for the shining city on a hill, instead I saw Cleveland! . I didn't read all of NGE's posts in all threads, frankly I do not have the time. I'll trust Mr. Luckey to do that for me :p .
Sarge, you mentioned the Pit, I have been in so many times to hear the crickets I haven't returned. :clue:

Item 1: you are a traitor and an outsider.. to add insult to injury... you will never be IN!
.
Item 2: NO... and I prolly lost $1000 on the trade-in value cause of your underhanded ways.

BTW.... You will NEVER ride Tate Ranch with my help! ;)
