I sure am glad MadEarthWorm didn't feel like you. Hell, he drove from Maryland to SC just to meet us. He was only on the board a month or so before Gomer met him and showed him how to ride.

Reminds me of a story of someone 4 years ago that drove 2 hrs to meet a few people to ride with that he had never met, talked too, or even knew what they looked liked. He just read online that they were going and it sounded like fun!

That was ME and I met Rich, Okie, Pokie, LoriKTM, AJ and Eric. :aj:

I agree with Sarge, its making mountains out of molehills

I will never doubt the good people and intentions of everyone on DRN. My wife and family think I'm odd for driving to Reno for a weekend, (especially on Valentines Day  ) and Riding with some of the folks on Fathersday weekend!

O-well. I'll go make fun of Rooster and Twinny in the Pit, that always makes me happy :p

Ya' know I really don't think it's about an "in" crowd or "dogpiles". I really think that some folks "get it" and some don't. With some they might not get it right away but if they really try there's a good chance they just might "get it". Then there are others that no matter how hard you try to help them they will never clue in, I won't miss them because there are so many existing good ones and new ones that will get it.

I like this place ( a lot ) , it's a riot and it's a riot because of people like NGK or whatever he is, that writes stuff so caustic that you want to choke the crap out of him and then you get the replies from people like Mr Spode, who is so brutally honest in his replies, it just cracks the sh*t out of me.

Also, the few people I do know from here are some of the best people you would ever want to know.

Hell, even the few on here that I have never met and probably never will, seem to be great people.

Anyhow, however you look at the attitudes on here, it seems to filter out those that need to be filtered and this is still the best run site I have run across, so :nener: to those that have a problem with it

Heck, I ain't going away and I figure a lot of the others percieved as having the attitude ain't either so those that are doing all the moaning might as well suck it up and stay or find another tree to pee on, the Internet is a big forrest so their is bound to be a spot for them to hike their leg.

OK, I do not personally know one person on this website nor have I talked to any at great length to find out much about them. I joined the site about a year ago when I had bought a new bike after not riding for close to 10 years and needed some pointers on set up and whatever. At first I just joined with a basic membership and then the people on here impressed me so much with their knowledge and willingness to help that I chipped in the appropriate dinero and became a support team member. At least I think that is what it is called. Bottom line, you can not get this much uselful information from a subscription to a magazine. As long as you adhere to the forum rules, all seems good (for me at least). I just try not to chime in on anything that I do not know anything about unless someone specifically asks me and although every one who has a problem may think that their problem is specific to them, if you do a search, more than likely you will find help unless you have a brand new bike or a new piece of equipment. If you can't take a little razzing every now and then, how can you take life??

see...there it is. Dragmiester is a part of the "in" crowd and he didn't even know it...but by god it's right here. The big book of in crowd and by-goly pg2 line 17...Dragmiester,...we lost touch with him for about 10 years then he re-emerged on the pre-eminant dirt bike site, dirtrider.net as a STM. see, it's all in here, so if any one else has questions about their standing.....i've got all the info. Dang tho...i see a check mark against Bubba S. seems he refused to sign an autograph here recently...one more of those and i can tell you from experience we'll be looking into it. :p <----- this guy just got a face full of "mean-on" and he loves it!

And that's a good thing for you, mister! :)

All kidding aside, this place is what it is... a big group of humans that all just happen to ride dirt bikes. Just as with any large group, certain bonds and friendships will be made. And as with any large crowd, there will be a few loose nuts in the mix too. This place is just like when you buy that can of mixed nuts - you can always pick through them and find the ones ya like.

I have made some great friends here on DRN that I interact with on a regular basis. I come here to be informed and entertained and hopefully I can reciprocate by being informative and entertaining.

Brent, come on. You don’t mean that. Heck, half the time I see ya on DRN you're in invisible mode??? Screen names have nutt’n to do with it, neither do the comments about avatar owning, in-the-group, dog pilling good ole boys.

This is a family, some are brothers or sisters, some are our big ole uncles, got a few cousins...some many times removed, and others are In-laws. :|
We get a lot of adopted kids every day, hell schools out and we been gett’n more than our fair share lately. But when someone acts stupid they are going to get slapped upside the head, it’s just that simple. Kinda like running the gauntlet. Guy sets a bad precedent for his kid and blames someone else in a public forum …. Run the gauntlet.
There are some good boys & gals in here, we’re going to get more in time, most of ‘em we get going to have thick skin or else Pred’s going to give ‘em a ride in the company car. This isn’t a sport where we fall off our bikes and cry to mommy ... we get back on and ride or we give up. This site is not made from the group that gave up. I'll take these guys over the sniveling twerps any day. they were there for me and my family, I'll be there for them.

That said, … lets go streaking. Everyone lets meet down at the quad. Woooo hoooo :yeehaw:

In third grade Sister Theresa told me "the meek would inherit the earth". I'm still waiting for delivery ;)

Rich ... the meek may inherit the earth but the strong will ALWAYS keep the mineral rights !

OK, God only know why, but I am going to toss in my $0.02 as an avatar, mod, in-crowd, relative newbie (less than 2 years) member ... whatever "label" you out there choose to apply to me.

Notice I said apply, that is important. When I first found the site all I could do is apply my perceptions as labels to the members of the site. I perceived an in-crowd during my early visits to the site. This was as evident to me then as it likely is to new members that find us today. Why is this?

Back then I attributed the majority of my perceptions to the fact that there were members of the site that knew things I didn’t. They had shared experiences that I knew nothing about, they laughed about jokes that I didn’t know. I felt uncomfortable not knowing, but there wasn’t a lot I could do about it one way or another.

DirtWeek ‘02 came along and low and behold on the very first day I broke a pile of bones in my foot. It wasn’t long before I shared a drive (to the hospital) and ice cream cone with Natty and found myself grounded during the balance of the week. Did I feel Okie and the crowd behind the tent were the in-crowd? In a word, yes. Did I let that bother me? Nope. I slogged on into the week drinking a Shiner Bock whenever the mood hit me cuz it was clear I wasn’t gonna negotiate anything more dangerous than a set of crutches. I will not mention all the folks that went out of their way to make sure I was having a great time out of fear of forgetting to mention someone, but you know who you are. Midway through the week I decided that the circus tent was a barrier I had to remove, so I hobbled behind the tent to find the “in-crowd”. You know what I found? I found a bunch of folks more than willing to make sure I had a chair and something to drink. Realizing that I couldn’t walk that well, I became the receiving end of a receiving line. By the end of the night I was sharing Carlo’s night scope with Eddie and Aimee, checking on the wildlife. OK, now I had a story (good one too!)! Dang, and all I had to do is look behind the curtain. Later in the week, Okie came by on the hospital quad looking for me. He wanted to give me a ride to the bomb-fire. I had (previously) decided not to go because of the distance of the walk. Okie WOULD NOT take no for an answer, so off we went. I met a pile of folks and ended up having a great discussion with Ivan (the first person on the site that I had pounced on).

I knew I had successfully masked the pain when Don (OKKX'er) came up to me and said that my "attitude" had been an inspiration.

Breaking down camp was a event to be remembered as I was completely worthless. Everybody pitched in and we were sadly off to our respective homes. One of my tires had been leaking air and again someone(s) WOULD NOT take no for an answer. I followed Stan and Grady to DFW, stopping twice so they could fill the air in my tire and finally putting on the spare at their house, I suspect because they didn’t want to follow me the next 50 miles to my house.

Fall turned to winter and things were slow around the North Texas Smack Pack, so I organized a Christmas get-together one Saturday in December at a steak house near Denton. Txbigguy got a Chef jacket from me for all his trouble in keeping us fed at Dirtweek and the official title of "Camp Tejas Chef".

DirtWeek ‘03 was my next real DRN adventure and all I knew was I would enjoy it, because of all the people I had met over the previous year. Three days of setting up and tending the water for the shower left me with the unavoidable task of finally firing up my motorcycle on Wednesday. I diverge ... the first night I learned the greatest “Sargism” of DirtWeek ‘03. It related to pedophiles ... or at least it began that way ... I had another story! An event at the fire and lo and behold I had another story, with photos this time! I will not bore you with the rest of the experience, but suffice it to say that I personally had a great time at DW ‘03. Did I hear complaints about the in-crowd? Yep and guess how I handled it. WE walked down to the big fire together. After about 10 minutes I left as the other person was sitting on the front row sharing a conversation with Okie and Elk and had forgotten that I was there.

Let’s discuss photos for a minute. In my own demented way I saw my camera as allowing me to break the ice with folks and meet-and-greet, if you will. Why? Because, like most folks I am somewhat shy and don’t mix well with folks some of the time. Well guess what, it worked at DirtWeek ‘02 (many thanks go to Natty for taking many of the photos), at DirtWeek ‘03, Reno ‘04, Kiamichi ‘04, Moab ‘04 and will likely do it’s magic at DirtWeek '04 as well. Anybody will smile for a camera. You did Brent, when I met you in Reno, and you can be sure I will be there next year taking photos again. Every get together of DRN members is like a family reunion and we need to record the event so we can enjoy it when we are old, fat and bald.

Back to the subject at hand ... attitude. Attitude is in the eyes of the beholder. I was scared to post in a forum that Rich watched, and went so far to admit so in a post. Why? Because Rich doesn’t suffer fools graciously. I don’t either and as soon as I realized that I didn’t care, but I did make sure I was posting in the correct forum!

All of the above rambling is to say that yes an in-crowd exists, but it is a label applied to those of us with history by those without history here at DRN. There are no locks on any doors here, all you have to do is respect the feelings of other members. Before you say “we” don’t when considering the posts of some, consider this ... NGE answered the thread about the stolen bikes today with the INAPPROPRIATE assumption that the bike were unlocked in the truck. Unless I am crazy and I read the post more than once, I never saw that in the original post. Even if it was in the post, it doesn’t matter. Does anyone besides me believe the guy felt bad enough already and that only made him want to wack himself even harder for leaving them in the bed of the truck to begin with? To make him feel “guilty” and “responsible” is to malign (is that the correct word?) the actual guilty party ... the thief. I consider his response to nephon beyond realm of reason and his other instance of sticking his foot in his mouth I do not even care to discuss.

I will always protect the feelings of those close to me when they are attacked and I consider unfeeling and unwarranted comments such as my examples to be attacks. Search under my name and you will find more than a few posts that address issues such as these when they arise.

Well said.....,at times I still feel this way and I would have only myself to blame. If I choose to be a more involved member of this site then I too may be percieved as a member of the "in" crowd. I have asked a few questions over the past 5 years but nothing that could be considered mind boggling. At times I have chosen to sit quietly in the corner and watch while something interesting unfolded.

I can understand BSmith's feelings on this matter. I can equally understand all those that oppose.

My basic feeling is this. You make of this site what you choose too, just like in life. If you choose to sit quietly unnoticed then that is exactly what will happen. If you choose to speak your mind and propose an alternative view then I applaud you for doing so. If you spend time blowing hot air out your arse then you just may just clear the way for your arse to be challenged. If you throw out an insensitive and unfounded remark then it's Katie bar the doors cuz it's on. At sometimes in our lives we are in the "IN" crowd and some times it's the "OUT" crowd, that's life...go with it cuz it's all ya got.

I have been quilty of posting incorrectly before and noticed it was politely moved with little comment made. The problem comes with repeat abuse. Where do you stop the madness. As for Rich, It intimidates me just asking a basic oil question because of his vast knowledge(whether he's right or not, he sure makes it sound good... :) ) Hey Rich...what's the best Dino juice for my MTD riding mower, I have had it 5 years now and I want to change the oil but I dunno where the plug is as I have never changed it before?

Tony... you my friend have a way with the written word. If I needed to "appoint" one person to be the spokesperson for DRN, you are it. No offense to anyone else; I am well aware of all the folks that "get" DRN, it's goals, what we want it to be.... Tony is just the one that can put it on "paper" best. Yes, there are many close seconds. Jeff Gilbert and others come to mind.

DRN is supposed to be so much more than just another faceless forum on the web, it's supposed to be a gathering point for all the other more important things; the get togethers, the friendships, the helping hands and the concern for others. I can't tell you how many times I have been absolutely blown-away by DRN members and the things they've done.

So get to the point PLEASE!.

There are a lot of members that have been here for a LONG time (in Internet years)... we've got the same group of mods that were here 5 years ago when we didn't have an "in" crowd. We've run this site with the same overall attitude from day one. We've learned some stuff along the way, we've made adjustments.

The Mods and "in" crowd have grown to care about each other and even this site. They've seen the morons come and go... they do tend to "defend" each other. But as Tony said so well... "There is no locked door"... everyone is welcome. Show some common respect for other members and you are well on your way. But just like in real-life, you earn your respect; your "pass". Friendships aren't given, they are developed. Every single member that joins DRN starts on the very same footing. What you do with it after that is up to you.
