Engine numbers to model year ?

Hey fellow enthussiests !!

I have a kawi kx 125 in my garage that I am working on. The kid who owns it swears up and down that it is a 2001, but the V.I.N says it's a 1999. I'm sure this question has been asked before, but is there a way to tell the year by the engine numbers ? It may be possible that someone has put an 01' engine in a 99' frame. I need to order some parts for the engine, but I must confirm the year to get the right parts. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!!

You have to contact a dealer to get the model year for the engine number.

some service manuals have the code for the years, i think kawasaki have it on the last pages but i am not sure if it´s just for the frame or the engine too...

99-02 are pretty similar anyway.
