FC22 - So how's the knee?

fc 22, the drugs work SO quickly a, i tired to stay awake but couldnt, they asked if they were working and i said na i cant feel a thing and then ok maybe they are...... and then i woke up and sitting up WAY too quickly wondering were i was, but pretty much the day was a blur then, but the pain killers was another pain in the a$$, but all i did was get up and lie down on the sofa for about 2 weeks or so, and then physio when i needed to, but the first place i went out to after the op was the bike shop :)

So I wanna know how you can determine which day/accident tore what:(

Maybe you should consider a career as an investigator or orthopedic surgeon:p

Well, I'm fairly sure the first time I didn't tear my ACL but I did tear something, so I'm sure that was the MCL. The second time I must have torn the ACL but not the meniscus, because I went to the doc between crash #2 and #3, and the torn meniscus wasn't on my MRI. They found it when they cut me open.

So that's how I figured things happened, anyway.

PROGRESS REPORT!!!

I can walk now! With only one crutch, or without crutches at all (only for a little while). Doc and therapist say as long as I have the brace on it's ok.

I also gained 6 more degrees of motion this morning in PT.

I'm only a week out and I can almost walk!

I also may have acquired a roommate, a fellow dirt rider chick. Only she's fast. We found a cool duplex with a garage big enough for both our pickups and our bikes. :cool:

Sharla, been awhile since we traded emails but I wish you a speedy, better than new recovery. One question that you may have already pondered: are you going to stick with the 2-smoke or thinking thumper again? I keep having thoughts of adding a 2-stroke but then come back to a 400 E/XC...

I don't know. I may keep the KTM, just because I won't go down on price and if no one gives me what I want, I'll keep it. But if it does go, my next bike candidates are:

BBR 150
CR 125 w/RPM 167 bore/stroke kit
KTM200
CRF 250R

In that order. :)

So the thumper/smoker question is still up in the air. The pros and cons are equal with both.

glad to hear you are doing well....better than I did at any rate ;)
I sent you an email but I'm sure you're just busy with the PT etc.
I can still think back to 2 years ago, and the surgery seems like yesterday (maybe that's senility setting in?!)
I'm sure you'll heal much faster than I did, since you're
A) MUCH younger!
B) probably listening to your PT person, unlike me
C) extremely determined, and want to ride again.

Hey there, thanks all.

I can do some more with it and swelling going down but it's still a malfunctioning knee. I can't wait until I am back onthe bike.

Not listening that much to PT person . . . no time. Come home from work, eat, nap, try to pack boxes/clean/write articles/talk on phone/internet/etc. Never enough hours in the day and I have neglected some of the exercises I'm to be doing at home.

Yamaholley, I don't think I got it . . . did you send to to my home account or to Yahoo? Yahoo sometimes "loses" email.

FC22 DO YOUR PT!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's the secret to not doing further damage when you return and also getting ALL your strength and movement back. Pay money out of your own pocket and go to a PT rather than doing (or NOT doing) it at home.

Hey calm down! I go in to PT 3 times a week! It's just doing them at home the other 4 days that I have been somewhat slacking on. Weekends, yeah, but Tues and Thurs I just can't do it. I'm doing fine.

No slacking allowed. We're going to take the pumpkin away until you do all your PT:p

What's the fix for the MCL? Graft from somewhere else?

Don't worry, the pumpkin is safely out of reach.

They don't do anything for the MCL, I don't think, since it will heal on its own. Just more PT and a longer/less fun recovery. I was too out of it post op to ask and haven't had my first followup yet, schedules too full.

Unfortunately, I can still count in months, rather than days. I am walking short distances with no crutches and can go around on the bike at full speed, no pause to push it over the top. But I still can't bend it very far and my PT is threatening me with nasty tales of what they do to break it loose if you don't regain the motion you need. Literally, they break it loose. :eek:

I don't think that will be necessary however. I'm getting there slowly but surely.

Good to here all is well, and remember good things take time. How far can you bend your leg back?? My physio measured mine in degrees each time i went, i think i got up to 125-130?? something like that. But remember its worth the wait, to ride again after being off the bike for 6 months is a god send you could say.

FC22, are you riding your bike already??? My doc told me I won't be able to ride till around maybe April-May...Luckily I'm cleared for baseball season;) I had my surgery October 25 and I'm doing very good and am already running short distances and it hasn't even been a month yet. I keep pulling my hamstring tendon though a lot and that is giving me lots of pain:scream: The things I would do right now to hop on that Blue Dragon of mine, and rip it up on the track...:( :p

Goodness no, no riding for me. My progress is good compared to other surgery patients . . . but I am still pretty crippled. I can't drive a stick yet and stairs are a challenge. You're kicking my ass if you can run already. Good job. My hamstring doesn't hurt at all anymore but it is so weak that I can't hardly lift with it.

I want to ride sooooo bad but can't. :(

keep up your PT you two...you are doing awesome! (compared to how I did anyway!)
It's a total drag, but worth it....and FC..yes, mine had to be broke loose...not a nice thing at all...
The tissue was adhering to something inside, and didn't allow free movement around the incision...ouch!
