Aaaarrggghh!! One thing after another!! I havent even had my bike running for 24hrs before it breaks again!!

I just put a new RM stator and rotor on my 89 RMX Friday. I finished about 10:30 to 11. We rode all day yesterday (Sat) for a total of prolly 8-10 hrs. Now the clutch went out.

I took it apart and one of the 6 prongs broke. I dont know what its called, clutch hub maybe? but it goes inside the clutch basket, and the discs sit on it. The springs bolt into it... So I now have 5 prongs instead of 6... Nothing was hurt, except that.. Has anyone broken one of these? I need to know how much it should cost, Id like to know of anywhere else I can get this other than my dealer.
Thanx for any help

Also, is it safe to run it with only 5 prongs/springs? Or should I just steer clear? I dont think im gonna, but if it wont break anything else i might considering I have like 2-3 weeks before it gets really cold..

Remember, it rotates, so it would be WAY out of balance. Also, the spring pressure would be very uneven on the plates. You've got my vote to park it until you can replace the inner hub.

Yeah, you guys are right. Im just gonna park it till I get the hub (is that what is called?) ordered. I dont want to risk breaking anything else. Theres a lot of expensive stuff in there!:scream:

the clutch basket

i think what your trieng to describe is your clutch basket
you defenetley dont want to continue riding it until its replaced
it is odd that one of the baskets fingers broke though
are there alotta rivets wore into the rest of the basket
regardless it has to be replaced and im sorry to say it is expensive
i think a henson clutch basket is somewhere between 250 or 300
hope this little bit of info helps in some way good luck!!

It's not his clutch basket, it's the piece that sits inside of it, that has 6 prongs that poke through the discs, so the other plate can bolt on.

My best guess is that its the clutch hub, but im not sure. Disassemble the clutch and bring the broken part with you, and the guy will be able to identify it and order a replacement. Where is the prong, in your transmission somewhere or do you have it? You need to get that out or there will be trouble.

I broke the same thing on my 92 RMX once. I was monkeying around with the clutch and busted it off. I called one of the Suzuki wholesalers in the back of the mags and got one in a few days for about $150. It's called the inner clutch hub, I think.

I thought it was called the clutch Boss. Anyway you should just get a new bike and sell you forks, Triple cllamps, and front wheel to me. :p Those inverted forks would sure feel nice on my bike. I believe that is the first year for the inverted forks? Also, what adjustments do they have on them. I am thinking of doing a converstion if I find the right price( and that's a cheap one ;) ).

RMX WOE's

I also have a 92 & 96 RMX, LOVE the bikes ! It is the clutch basket that broke. I just bought a used set of power valves from a place called DIRT CYCLE SALVAGE. Got the power valves for $40 ( list is $650 ) Their e-mail address is dcycles@kersur.net . Good luck!!

Its the inner clutch hub. I know for sure its not the cluch basket or the pressure plate, plus it looks just like this I found it on the hinsonracing website... But there isnt one for my bike.:(

I have the prong, it looks like one of the clutch spring bolts broke, then it was flyin around, and broke off the prong. Since there was a head of a bolt and a prong with the rest of the bolt in it, im guessing thats what happened? But luckily it didnt damage anything, just scratched my clutch cover up a bit.

Hey Danman - there is actually a front wheel asy, and a fork/tripleclamp asy on ebay for the 89 RMX.. the wheel has been at $25 for quite a while and the forks are at $50. Theyre not mine tho;)

Clutch Parts FS

Here is a guy that had a complete clutch setup, tho for a '93 RMX. Glen @ 610-255-4676. It's probably a diff. part # than your year (because it was updated?) but may work well as a complete package.

He has other things I want, # plates, rear sprocket, & top-end kit. The clutch stuff I don't need,; same with a brake hose he had.

I did not buy his stuff 'cuz he wanted it to go as a package, so maybe you can buy it & I'll take/buy what I want from you.

The RMX front wheel is not interchangable with the DRs (different axle diameter). I know 'cuz I put RMX suspension on my old DR350 (441). Those are good prices, tho.
