Favorite range gun: hands down, a "hot-rodded" Colt 45 ACP shooting handloaded semi-wadcutters. Makes a nice visible hole.

Home Defense: Double action 9mm. Sig is my favorite (German makes are superior), but for home I think the Ruger is a better value and has added safety features.

Bore: I tend to side with the momentum vs. kinetic energy argument favoring the 45, but placement/accuracy is paramount and I'm a Jeff Cooper kinda guy, except for home defense.

Ammo: I've always been concerned about what gets hit on a miss. For home defense, I load a slower round with a bigger hollow point bullet that will spend energy quicker when it hits walls or whatever was missed. Last I looked at store ammo, "sub-sonic/big bulleted" rounds were available in 9mm and 40acp.

I've got a Glock 23 with night sights I like a lot. I like the simplicity and reliability of the Glocks. It's true that Glocks don't have a manual safety- neither do revolvers. A Glock (or a revolver with a transfer bar) cannot fire unless the trigger is pulled. Your finger shouldn't be inside the trigger guard until you're on the target anyway.

It all comes down to personal preference. A shooter that's comfortable with a .32 and can hit with it is much more effective than a guy with a super nitro .475 that can't.

BTW- 3 weeks ago I went to the Glock Shoot down here (500+ shooters). Man, some of those guys can shoot!

The decision is finally made! HK USP 40 is the one. May have to get a SIG 229 in 9mm for Scooter, we'll see how she handles the .40 .

You'll like the USP .40, very reliable(I've had 0 jams/misfires in 3000 rds), low recoil and I personally like having a manual safety & decocking lever.

I like the Sigs as well, but I haven't found anything with a better "feel" than the HK.(Though this is subjective)

I think you will like the .40 choice. My wife doesn't seem to have any trouble with that in a CZ clone. You might try what I use as a defense ammo, Cor-Bon 135. Pretty impressive pushing 135grains at about 1350fps. The only draw back may be the excessive report and muzzle flash indoors. Very impressive in a dimly lit indoor range though.

Hey all you gun owners....

I've been trying to find what I would consider to be the "best" forum for gun owners. There are a few decent ones out there, but I haven't seen one that I feel is as good as it could be.

So... :)

Looking for suggestions about what you all think would be good topics for forums. What would you like to see? I've got enough ideas to build a good board, but would love input from you guys. I won't be building a copy of any of the forums I've seen... some forum topics will obviously be the same, but the goal will be to make a board that is more inclusive, more stable (seems a lot of the boards have a hard time staying online for any amount of time)... etc.

If anyone feels strong about one of the topics that would be in the forum, I'll be considering people to moderate if you are interested. I know my bud Thump is a big time SIG expert, that slot will be taken :)

Anyone want to take a shot at tossing out some ideas?

The Ruger insurance deal ?, I did some research and Ruger is self insured , if bills from a motorcycle accident were denied it is because Ruger wants it that way. The new issue of American Handgunner made the statement that they are self insured.

I like to check out the two site's listed above, but neither of them have any thing for rifle's, bolt or semi-auto. There's alot of people out there that shoot military type weapons and I havent seen any good board's yet. One of the great feature's of this board is the fact every type of bike or riding is covered, 4 strokes, 2 strokes, euro's and jap bike's, trail and race, woman's, off topic, and review's, you can get lost if you want to. So how about something simular with gun's, handgun's, rifle's shotgun's semi-auto's rifle's, compatition and just desert plinking .22's. A format like this board can be the best one out there !!

Very cool! A guy could go crazy trying to meet all wants for specific manufacturers (Mossberg, Savage, Kimber, European/American, just off the top of my head), so I wonder if you need a forum for each brand?

That looks cleaner! I would imagine this would be a work in progress (adding or subtracting forums as time goes on), and I can see sponsors lining up. :)

Looks good. Maybe consider separating handguns not by brands, but by "Pistols" and "Revolvers".

Maybe expand hunting into "Rifle"; "Shotgun"; "Handgun"; "Other" (in Spain they say real men hunt wild boar with a knife. The shorter the more macho. Until then I thought I was "muy macho" :scream: ).

Tough to organize with so many makes. Maybe just go with current popular makes and relegate others to "other".

Handgun by type should consider autos, revolvers and single-shots, but it seems more intuitive to find by brand.

Only other way I can see is to group by country/continent of origin: euro, s. amer., US, etc.

Definitely on the right track though.

If they get too crowded then you can split it into sub groups.

I went through USMC Combat Marksmanship-Coaches School.
I was a trained instructor for the Pistol and Rifle ( M-14 & M-16 ).

Looking good so far, it probably would be a good idea to make some sort of legal statement to protect yourself regarding the sales of a gun, all transactions must go thru a FFL, and certain states like the Republic of Kal. you cant not sell or buy certain semi-auto assult rifles,dadada the list goes on......... unfortunley buying a gun on a web site may attract some undesirables, easy guy's, I know what you are thinking, but how many criminal's want to buy an Excel wheel for a CR250 ?

How about a forum for a gun auction or parts as well ? just a thought
