GSR- Of course! 'Can't wait to try it out on that big hill right there at the parking lot at Moon Rocks. 'Haven't weighed it, but it sure feels that light. 'Just in case, got a quart enduro jug for the handlbars and call that my "reserve tank." And everybody needs more than just one bike, don't they?

Katie- If you don't have your Pampera quite yet, what will you be riding at Berthoud so I know what to look for? ('Course if Rod's there, that'll make it easy to find you.) 'Just wondering because I have an extra bike too so we can both ride and swap around if you are between bikes right now.

Hey Katie and Jen,

Sat is doubtful. I have a 100 year old cottonwood lying in my front yard (got a killer deal from the tree guy but the catch is I have to dispose of it.)

My neighbor and I are splitting the cost of a BIG wood chipper and we have it reserved.

If you want to stop by my house on the way up Jen I'll give you the mags for Katie (although my place is out of the way 6th and Kipling)

You have to see the KTM I went with Black and Silver plastic it looks BADD!:p

CJ - wow....what an offer!
We're both between bikes right now, so I won't be bringing anything!
I can't wait to get back on a bike....

We'll be driving an older white GMC Suburban or a black Park Avenue - with no bikes! LOL

Hey Rod- I have your pipe. I was gonna stop by on my way back on Saturday, but I put the Godzilla soundtrack CD in, turned it up, and forgot to turn off when I hit I-76. I remembered at about Monument hill, but it was too late then. We'll just have to ride again sometime soon.

Gospeedracer,
Gas Gas has been building the Pampera in one form or another for about 6 or 7 years now. The bike has been imported in limited numbers and till now has appealed to fairly eclectic group of riders. For 2002 Gas Gas made some changes that have resulted in broadening the appeal of the Pampera to a wider range of riders.
I have weighed my 02 P280 and 99 P320 and both weigh under 200 lbs ready to ride without gas! This is without mirrors, turn signals and having removed the passenger foot pegs. Older models had a battery that I removed. The motors are in a very mild state of tune, breathing through a tiny 26mm carburetor, which results great torque and exceptional gas mileage. My girlfriend uses hers for easy duel sporting which yields a usable range of 100 two-track and road miles. She rode 109 miles w/o hitting reserve on one ride. I think 80 trail miles are possible if you use a little wrist restraint. Spanish built motorcycles have come a long way but I would be the first to suggest that they are not for everyone. As you noted the price for one of these gems is very reasonable!
Bruce

FireLily,
I also live in N.Cal. My wife recently decided that her xr200 didnt have enough suspension and power to ride the way she wanted to. She went to the track with me and was lucky enough to be able to ride another girls cr80 expert and really liked it. So she started shopping around. After riding and asking a lot of people she ended up buying a kx100. She loves it, and doesnt have one complaint yet. We go to Sand hill, carnagie, argyll, hollister, stony and a bunch of places around where you might go. If you are interested in trying out her bike, we might be at the same place at the same time. PM me if you are going to a place soon or are interested in trying it out.

what bike do i get.

Hi I am 15 and 5'10 and i think you should get a Kawasaki KLX 250 they are an excellent bike to get. You can do anything on them i take mine up the hills in my area Middlesbrough (ENGLAND,UK).
Buy one trust me.
I have heard alot of people on this site say that they are CRAP but they are not.
They are a four stroke which means alot of power low down and you can wind the throttle on.
Thanks KLX_BOY:D

KLX Boy, my friend who rides an XR200 would love a KLX250 if only she could afford one. She liked the power delivery & the height (she's a bit shorter than me and found my KDX too tall in tight trails).
But yeah, definitely another option - the electric leg is handy too.
When she was test riding it, we were all wondering if she was going to give it back ;)

FireLily- COOLNESS! I'll have mine there for you to try out! Just look for a really really short red-head on a little blue GG with a few much taller guys all riding yellow Suzuki DRZ400s (That should look silly enough to make it easy to spot). I'll be there for Saturday and Sunday's rides. 'Couldn't get off work to get there any earlier. I'm so glad you can make it to Reno! COOLNESS!!!

Skidplate

Katie-
My husband custom makes skidplates for the new Pamperas. He modifies a skidplate off of a trials bike to fit up on it. It involves welding, metal grinding and cutting and custom fabrication. When you get your bike, I would recommend taking it to Stan Hensley at Tote Gote in Pueblo who will have an endless supply of slightly used trials skidplates that he could modify to your pampera - i would expect to pay somewhere between $150 - $250 - it's alot of labor.

We're working on getting a guy in california to make some ready made ones in the future.

Sold another P280 this week to a very , very good male rider. It sure has a wide range of appeal!

Hey FireLily,

Susan and I are staying as well at the Peppermill Motor Lodge. And Susan has a BBR200. It's custom built by Brown Brother's Racing (aka BBR) up in Kent, WA. It uses CR80-Expert suspension, wheels (19"F/16"R), and handlebars, etc. -- BBR's aluminum-perimerter frame -- and a stock XR200R engine w/ BBR's exhaust pipe and silencer.

Handles phenomenal (USD forks, great shock, disc brakes fore and aft), low seat-height, and the "can't-kill-it-with-a-rock" XR200 motor. The engine is a great choice because the powerband is so linear.

Best yet.... weight without gas is about 190 lbs. Which is 32 lbs. less than a stock Honda XR200R...! So yes, Susan loves her bike. (grin)

I'll talk to Susan and see if you can take it for a short spin up at Moon Rocks.
It's a great little bike!

See you Friday in Reno! - RandyB
