My 01 KDX220 has Rev pipe, Boyensen reeds, aftermarket silencer, removed airbox snorkel and 12 front 47 rear sprocket. I ride alot of tight woods and I notice that I would like to remain in 2nd gear for real slower tight stuff but I find myself having to shift to 1st as 2nd won't hold out strong and 1st is too low so it feels like I am downshifting harder than I like here. What would be the way to go gearwise so I can maintain 2nd gear in the tight stuff. :bang:

I'm running a 13/49 (or is it 50?) combo now, and I hardly ever use 1st for the very reasons you describe. 2nd will now climb anything I throw at the bike, and it allows me to keep my momentum up much better because 1st was too low before even.

Try 12/52. I ran that for a while because I don't like to use the clutch in slow tight stuff. I thought it was pretty kool! Only drawback is you shift a bit faster if you accelerate.

Do the math, but 13/50 is just about the same as 12/47, is it not? Try the 12/50 combo that was suggested above. I think you can do this with the stock chain. You should be able to run in second just about everywhere with this combo, especially if you are jetted correctly. Cheers John

As in the 13/47 combo. Yes, I will put the stock 13 on for this weekends ride and go from there. Thanks all!

If you have a 12 front and 47 rear why would you want to put the 13 front back on ??
You will be gearing the bike higher and be worse off .

I guess the higher gearing will enable me to keep out of 1st gear and maintain 2nd in very tight stuff eh?

The smaller you go on the front and the larger you go on the back the more power you will have . You will loose top speed but will beable to ride in higher gears at lower speeds .
