I have a project due and google wont work, no search engines will work. it says my computer has software that wont let it run. ive read how to get rid of it but i still wont work. WHat could it be?

i got the same thing

im pretty dang good with computers and stuff but this one escapes me

Ive run ad aware, spybot, and Norton AV and got rid of everything but i still havent got rid of it

btw: excite.com works

I've never heard of that either but it made me curious enough to do a LOT of searching. I ran across this:

This thing is just a hosts file hijacker.... Removing the hosts file or removing all entries containing the following IP 64.191.95.139 in your hosts file (which incidentally now resolves to a page explaining to come to TweakXP to resolve the issue...hmmmmm) will solve this isuue temporarily....

Ad_Aware and Spybot S&D do not yet remove/fix this problem.

To find the hosts file.
In XP.
C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc
file name is hosts no extension. open it in notepad and delete all references to search engines OR just delete the whole host file.

If you are on Windows 98 or ME, the hosts file is located in C:\Windows\
