grinding noise in my rear shock/swing arm

I replaced the transmission oil and air filter last night getting it ready for the desert this weekend and when I sat on the bike there was a grinding sound that was coming from the rear shock/ swing arm. It happens when I compress the bike down and release it up. I still plan to ride it this weekend and just replace it when I get back. Any ideas of what the problem is? Would it still be OK to ride on this weekend in sand? Would appreciate any help? Thx

Change you linkage bearings lately?

nope, I don't think they've ever been replaced. You think that might be it?

That noise you here is the linkage bearings crying for grease!
