Help, Electrical Problems

My 1997 kdx 200 seems to be having electrical problems or so i think. As when i start my bike it runs like its miss firing or something and the nuetral light flash's on & off and then it dies and a bit after so does the bike. then when i try to start it again it back fires.
Does anyone know what my problem is.

Sounds like it's out of time to me! But if it IS electrical... It is usually a bad ground somewhere.
