i have a problem.ive got a 94 rm 250 and when i place it on a stand i have noticed i can grab the swing arm and it moves up and down just slightly,it seems to have play where the bottom of the shock bolts up.is there meant to be any bearings etc where the bolt goes through the bottom of the shock?

Yes, there are bearings in the swingarm linkage. It sounds like they are worn out and need to be replaced.

I'm talking him saying this that the slop is noticed in the bottom of the shock vs. the swingarm bushings?

in that case yes some bikes have a bushing, some have two top hat shaped bushings with o-rings around them. sounds like whatever the case with your bike its worn. hit one of the parts fish sites and see what you need. should not be difficult.
