Hey Don, thanks for the great report!! I was chasing broken cars againg today so I didnt get out there to say howdy.. Its ALWAYS nice to see and hear that my buds are still hard at it - Kops, Luna and some of those other folks and I go back a long ways ;)
Whats that? A story? Ohhh, OK, but you gotta promise you wont use it against me!!
Back in the 90's Paul Kops was the President of the club (before Matt) and before that he was into CR500's pretty heavy (used them to climb the Garfield nationals). I had a 93 CR500 that I was "done with" and he came out to take a look at it.. While looking, he asked if he could pull the filter and check the carb.. I said - go ahead and I got him some tools... He ended up buying the bike...
A few years later I raced a club race they had at Horseshoe Lake (took a first too)... After they finished Trophy time a bunch of us stayed after.. Paul was getting pretty blitz and he started ragging on me in front of the boys about dismantling my CR before buying it years ago.. Of course, me being the easy going person that I am just laughed along with everyone else.. Trina (Pauls wife) was trying to talk me into joining the club - she said that they were always looking for experienced riders to help represent the club.. Paul caught wind of the conversation and came over to brag about his new CRF450.. He asked if I had ever ridden one and begged me to ride his bike and see what I thought (like I said, he was blitz haha).. I told him no about 10 times and he kept at it - kinda teasing me about being afraid of it.. FINALLY I told Larry to watch this as I rode Pauls bike.. Little did Paul know that a really good friend of mine had one (first year CRF450) and I had spent some time on it - LOVE AT FIRST RIDE!! As I was putting my helmet on I told Larry that it was payback time for all the harrasment :aj:
I went out of the old Horseshoe Lake parking lot (back in the pines) on the back wheel and thru those huge whoops with NO MERCY.. I cut across the woods section, out onto the road, back up the two-track into the lot and slid the entrance TT style in forth, rode a wheelie across the lot and flew back into the whoops.. I could see Kops face going :yikes: as I went thru.. On my next pass he was standing in the middle of the lot flopping his hands up and down so fast I thought he was going to get "lift" and fly :) I stopped and he came running over and said "give me my bike, your a #$^&ing maniac".. Later I found out that Larry was priming the pump telling Paul that I was known to be able to twist a bikes frame around corners and stuff... I told Paul later that I really liked his bike and wondered if I could borrow it sometime to go woods riding when he wasnt usingit :rotfl:
Oh the memories.......
Later
