I have been using Alpine Stars Tech 6's for a couple years now. They ahve been pretty good boots once I got the soles replaced at the factory (they were chunking). It was time to get some new ones so I decided to try the Gaerne SG1's. Here is my review:
These boots are lighter than the Tech 6's they replaced. Very comfortable with better liners/padding for the sole of the foot too. Ankle padding seems to be more substantial on the Gaerne as well.
I really like the buckles better on the Gaerne than the Tech 6 system. The darned reverse buckles on the Tech 6's were always getting grass and crap caught in them. Not so with the Gaerne boot. Oh yeah - the buckles are aluminum instead of the plastic ones used on the Tech 6's.
The verdict:
So far I like these boots better than the Alpine Stars they replaced. More information to come as time passes and I can better tell how these boots hold up to the rigors of X-Country racing.
