My understanding is that the KX125 kicker from a 1989 KX125 is the one to use to convert the KDX to a shorter kicker.
According to the parts fiche, that same lever is also used on the 84-85-86-87-models of the KX125. I have not been able to find a used one from those years, but there are several from like 1990. Does anyone know if they will work, or if not why not? There are some of these on ebay for cheap.
