I realize this may be reaching, but can anyone compare these two bikes. The 88 (Kevin Heinz won the National on it) is the one I have ridden since 1990, and the 300 EXC is what I think I want to buy.

I've been told that the newer EXC is much faster, and is a bike only for expert and physically fit riders ... not for an old man like me ... (55, 200 lbs, in great shape and 35 years of Northern Michigan single track off road riding). I really don't want to believe that this bike isn't right for me, but I'm willing to listen.

Any advice or comparisons will be appreciated.

That's nonsense. Get the 300. You will not be disappointed. Very easy to ride assuming your brain is connected to your right hand.

Go for the 300.. As a bonafide ol'phart I can attest that the 300 will be perfect for you.. Nice electric power.

1988 350 Enduro vs 2000 300 EXC

Thanks guys, I just got back from looking at two 300's and came to the same conclusion. Although the new 400 EXC's that replaced these two-two strokes sure make me think hard about a four stroke.

Don't be surprised if you see a new thread: 2000 300 EXC vs 2002 400 EXC. I'm not sure I can justify 7 large for a bike right now, but the 400 sure looks sweet ... got to love those thumpers!
