Leaky fuel valves on KTM's

I have a 02' KTM300EXC. The fuel valve leaks occassionally, especially when it is really dirty. So I end up draining the gas and cleaning the valve out. Why did KTM decide to put the front part of the valve facing forward where all the crud can get into it? I was thinking reversing it so the valve was facing the other way and just make a loop with the new fuel line. Is it possible?

I've got the same problem. I'm going to be putting on an '03 fuel valve, they're a lot better design.
