hey guys,
i have the need for some doubles & table tops, but most of the mx tracks these jumps are WAY to big for what i want to risk my health on at age 53 now. :-)

anyone know of any tracks that don't have the HUGE jumps or gaps ?
or even some private mx tracks that are open to riders ?

i'm looking for something in lower, to central MI. or northern IN.

thx,
dave www.rc-builds.com

I'm calling B.S. Mr. Dunn......when a guy is calling out The Sarge on facebook, he's got some serious cahonees.

A 40-50 ft double is no big deal if you're calling out The Sarge.

Agreed on Log Road. Their jumps are tame and mostly rollers. Bart does a great job with grooming and hosting practice days down there.....but his admission isn't cheap.

Big Air in Newaygo also features lots of table top jumps, with safe landings for coming up short. They've done a lot with making that place compatable for all skill levels to have fun.....still my favorite MX track in MI. It's about a 50 minute drive from the North side of GR.

131 MX has been on/off as far as being open/closed. The last time I rode there (Martin, just North East of where you're at I believe) they had improved the safety of the jumps. They also had a "route-around" on all the obsticles. I haven't heard if they're going to be open or closed this spring yet.

I understand that they water the tar out of the track early....I haven't been there on Wednesdays, but my buddies that go have mentioned it.

The track flows really well, some elevation changes/drops, sand a clay. Love that place.

You guys let me know when you go. Log road is less then an hour from my place. If tdunn is going to give Motor-Cross and that jumping stuff a try so can I. I will even bring a real motor-cross bike with me, after I remove the clown horns of course. Would hate not to fit in with the rest of you.

Sandbox Mx is a fun and really safe track in the Vassar Mi area. I like going out there for their practice days.

A track with safe jumps? Knowing when to say no and chop the throttle is difficult, not the tracks. Bike set up is important! What track has do or die jumps anymore? Even Redbud is safe, compared to back in the day. Vintage Bob

Shagy,
I don't think Mr. Dunn will want your goofy azz out there watching (I know I would not). When you complete your bike, let me know and I will have you over. You can try the woods and the MX.

Hey Dave I the only track I've riden (twice) is a short one (.1 miles they tell me) behind M-66 Power Sports in Ionia. I can't compare it to any thing else, but I can't find anything dangrous about it. You know how cautious I am. So it can't be that bad. It's ten bucks to ride all day.

I may be able to offer up a ride day at PTR when we open the track back up for the season.

Your thinking of Powers Motorsports. I do believe they have a track as well, never ridden there though.

I usually head to Grattan Raceway when i need a MX fix. Its been a few years since i was there last (seems their practice days are always on enduro weekends) but it is a very fun and safe track.

But, this time of year? I need a 4 hour trip south! Dang white stuff coming down again. I have not been to Casey, Il. in 4 years or so. I always thought of it as a safe track? Not getting landed on by some c/d rider is important! Why I hate Redbud open practice days, but? Most tracks have done away with the do or die jumps, the volume of riders and limited ride days can make for some unsafe situations?

Kiddirt,

PTR is Portland Trial Riders. It is a MX track in Portland (club that has been around a looooong time) They also host a few Hare Scrambles - mostly MX.

Dave L. is not on here often and I did not want your question to go unanswered.

I've ridden Powers....it's a small arena cross style track. If you're going that way....IMO....Big Air is a better choice. Less congested, bigger track, more friendly obsticals.

Portland is just West of Lansing, about 20 minutes East of Ionia. Great facility. I believe that you have to become a club member in order to do any open practice days.

Battle Creek is closer to you. Similar in terrain/obsticals (and membership) as Portland. Might be a cool option to join one of these clubs. Great guys, similar interests, etc.

Have you looked into M40, near Marcellus, MI??? I heard that they had some open practice there too. They have an oval dirt track for car racing and a MX track on the NE corner of the property. It's small, and I don't believe that they charge much. If you google it, you should be able to find a contact. I haven't been down there in quite some time, so I'm uncertain of the track layout now.
