Looks like I missed the boat somewhere

Okay, I admit that I'm anal about my vehicle’s appearance. I sweat over it. :silly:

Been reading a lot about finishes, waxes, compounds, etc. Read about a product that I've seen on the shelf at the local AutoZone... and even the "Car Boutique"... a high dollar, has all the cool stuff, ricer, 4-Wheeler, foo-foo shop in Schaumburg, IL... if it's cool, they have it... in stock. This little, old-fashion (70's) looking metal can... mixed in with the hi-tech, hi-dollar new wave polishes. that should make your vehicle shine like a diamond in a goat's ... (oops).... while it's still steep ($17! for the little can)... It's UNREAL. How could I have over-looked this stuff? How could I have actually considered some "shine" products costing as much as $75 a pint? (no, there is no way on this green earth I'd buy that stuff).

Liquid Glass folks. Yup. I honestly can't believe how well this stuff works and how easy it is to make work. Long story made a little shorter. Wipe it on, it dries to a haze. Wipe it off. 4 hours of sun later (it "bakes in") another coat. WOW! I'm told by those in the show-car know, that if I get about 5 coats on, the paint will look a mile deep. The dust will fall off (or close to it). It lasts an entire summer.

I'm sold! Put a coat on this afternoon. When I buffed it out (by hand, easy...) it was shining. 4 hours later, it was incredible! Okay, so some of us aren't trying to get every bit of reflective (measurement) bit out of our (trucks :) ), but hey... like I said... I'm anal. See pic below. No, they arent going to sponsor DW, lol... I'm just really excited about a product that works this well. Check the local Pep-Boys or Foo-Foo car store. It's worth every cent. One can should do a couple coats on 2-3 average size cars/trucks.

If I had a vehicle that was worth more than the gas I put in it, I would have to get that stuff.

Is the stuff absolutely, 100%, non-abrasive?

Some very fine rubbing compounds (and waxes) make the paint look great, but they take a little paint off each time. They also can lead to spider-webs when used improperly on dark paint (I saw no webs on your rig)

If there are no abrasives, I'm gonna pick some up.

That's impressive. I have been using Nu-Finish for probably 12-15 years now. White paint hides a lot of sin! :D

LOL - the can looks like its from the 70's because it is :) Everyone I know that had nice cars used to use it but I haven't seen it around in forever! Have you seen it anywhere else?

Dats it...
the more coats the better, 4+ hours in between, I've got two on it so far. Gotta get up at sunrise to do it (direct sun the rest of the day, not to mention 95 deg and 85% humidy at 6:00 PM. Gawd, I'm SOOOOO sick of the heat this year.

I discovered Liquid glass a few years ago. Before this, I was using New Finish. Liquid Glass is a great product that lives up to it's name. On new vehicles, this stuff works great, all you do is wipe it off. If your vehicle is a little older, you may have to use a light polishing compound to remove oxidization, but once you have good clean paint to work with, Liquid Glass goes on and comes off effortlessly. New Finish is good too. I just used it on my 67' Firebird that sat for four years in a garage. I went over the whole car once with it and the trunk took two applications. The paint on my bird was in pretty good shape to begin with, so not much effort was needed. :cool:

In this heat that's one of the few times to go riding. I think I'll go riding instead, and throw some more mud at my truck. If you get enough layers of mud on your truck, well, it may not reflect, but in it's own way, next to your dirty bike, it looks kind of cool......

I have talked to some people and read some things on the net about Zano Brothers polish, etc. The application process sounds very similar, and I had wondered if it was a re-packaged Liquid Glass.

Zaino is the hot stuff today. It is #1 in the show circuit. Not too expensive but an incredible shine. It has a couple stages in the process.

I've had my pickup for over a year, and have yet to truely wash it :eek: Every now and then, a rain storm comes by and takes most of the muck off. ;)

Jay.. there's a big debate on which product lasts the longest. A guy on 150online (pro detailer) has done a bunch of testing, says they have about the same result, LG does last substancially longer and a LOT less hassle to use, something about all the steps required to use Zanio?

Smb... wash the vehicle with dawn dish soap to remove all other wax, road film. If the paint is rough to the touch, you should probably clay it. Then just wipe on LG, let it haze (5 minutes) wipe it off. BOOM! Let it "bake" in the sun for at least 4 hours, apply another coat. Repeat as many times as you like, 4-5 is best from what I hear. Rained on mine last night, wuped it off with a soft towl... BOOM! :) Ya think I like this stuff?

On clear coat finishes you wash with dish soap, clay, and use #2

Sounds like the same procedure. The amount of coats is your decision

Okie, you put RainX on the windows right? One of the most effective/cheapest products around. I love driving around in the rain and not using the wipers. Plus it eliminates annoying water spots.

I ALWAYS use a REAL chamois for drying - I've tried darn near every 'miracle rag' and synthetic chamois on the market :|

When washing - always spray dirt/debris off your sponge before dunking it in your wash pail - unless you like scratches.

Always wash top down.

What other tips do you guys have?
