we've started riding a track with a great layout. Recently however, I 've run into a situation I've never encountered before. The irrigation on the track is down and the track is clay. The corners have bees turned up into a super fine silt. The sitl is of course in top of hard clay. The consistancy of the stuff is like baby powder. Needless to say no traction. It's super slick. I've ridden in sand alot (grew up in the outer banks), as well as clay(went to colledge in the piedmont). neither is like this.
We ride there alot, so any tire combo's or riding adjustment suggestions would be great.

i live in the piedmont here and our trails get like that too, and i still eat it a lot on that stuff. i still haven't mastered it. on the flat turns of the trails i just take it a bit slower, keep the weight to the center or a little to the rear (every time i lean too far forward bad things happen) and be easy on the throttle. When i master it, i'll be sure to let you know.

P.S. what track is it your were metioning, i live in kernersville and how far would it be from here?

the mentioned track is near greenville. I lived in greensboro for a couple of years, and have lots of family up that way(burlington, winston-salem, jamestown, and my cousin lives in kernersville). I am very familiar with the clay up there. This isn't really like that. It's much finer when it gest ground in.

Ever go to the widowmaker trails in greensboro? (if they're still there)

Top Gun (Iron Station, NC) is like that. You can hit a foot tall berm only to find out it is baby powder dust.

TNT (Chester, SC) can get like that in places, too. I like the 739 rear and S12 front for those conditions. I have also had good luck dropping to 11 lbs of air with the 739 to help make it grip. The Michelins, OTOH, seem to require a little more air, so I run 12 or 13 in the S12.

There's a group fom Atlanta making the trek to TNT this Saturday...any way you could swing down and I can show you how *not* to do it?

HLgomer,
thank's once again for the invite. I'm still having that contractor problem(some days he's here, some days ?).. Looks like I won't be making any 2-3-day trips until spring, after my son is born. But I am itching to get there and I'll let you know when I do. If you ever get to the outer banks of nc I'll trade you and show you how not to do a backflip on a skerfer.:D

how did the soccer game go?

Umm...what's a skerfer? Anyway, as long as you're demonstrating and I'm pointing with one hand and holding a cold one with the other, I'm in!

They won 2-1, but I think the other team really out played them. Ricky, 12, is on the "classic" team, so it is 1-2 games every weekend with an occasional tournament. The weekend before they went to Myrtle Beach and got 2nd (out of 24 teams). They got beat by a team from Carey, NC.

oops I meant skurfer ( wakeboard).. actually it works better if you hold a cold one in each hand, that way you'r balanced on the boat. My brother lives in carey, they're a bunch of snots, I wish you had won. thanks for the info on the meats. also where is top gun?

My local track has corners like that in the summer.
If it is on a flat or off camber corner stay centered on the bike and don't grab a handful of throttle, roll it on smooth and gentle.
If it's built up into a powdery berm, I don't have the will power to avoid it. Just throw your bike into the air filter destroying pile and blow it up in 3rd gear.. Woohoo! This works especially well if you've got someone right behind you.:p

Hey Yardpro....

It was nasty out there... Bulldog said you said you stopped by. I rode up on my bicycle for a few min and couldnt believe how thick the dust was. You should have seen his airfilter. Looked like a glob of mud after one day.
I think I'll pass when its that dusty.
