Making the switch - 250 to 125

Well... the time has come ( almost );) I will be switching from my beasty 89 RMX to a newer 125. Im looking for anything 96 or newer... anything I should know? Actually this will help my friend more than me. I know how to ride a 125 better than a 250. Is it bad that i can run faster lap times on my brothers yz80 than on my 250?:think

Is the jumping technique different? Corners? Starts? I have a little while before I get my new bike, so I've got a while to let it all soak in and figure it out :)

what are you moving down for? c'mon stick with the 250. but if you are then it would be a big difference, but you said you already can ride a 125 better than a 250 so that's taken care of. the cr's were good before they got the aluminum frame. i also hear that the kx's were really good during the same years. yz's are always good.

Well I'm making the switch, and I'm gonna suck a 125! Right Track Master?:ugg: So what do I need to know about power and stuff, I really like the bottom my CR250 gives me, especially on the track.

Bottom? Whats bottom?:confused: my bike has no bottom whatsoever. Im riding a big overweight 125.

H.R. - found my prob ( one of many ;) ) I didnt wire the kill switch right, plus its running super rich again..

IMHO

a rider learning to go fast on a smaller bike ends up being a better rider than one who starts out on a big bike. I think it has to do with confidence and learning how to use all the throttle and holding it wide open, then when you get a faster bike you have better control of the power and are more comfortable with it. I also think that on the smaller bike you are working on ways to find the fastest lines because you don't want to scrub off speed and get it rolling again.

Fred is definetly right, once you get to the point were you can hold the throttle pinned on a 125 you will be able to tear it up on a 250, I went from a 125 to a 250 and back to 125 and I am faster everywere except hills (a 167 big bore kit should fix that) all you need is a quick pull throttle and a hydralic clutch.
