Howdy,

Anybody know what to expect at Morrison? milage, terrain, key time, camping, sign-up on Saturday, etc.

Cheers,

We are supposed to ride milage this weekend, I should have better information by then.
Headlight required to start, license plate a good idea.
Quite a bit of woods riding this year with some open fields thrown in, but not as many as last year.

No. This thread is about the Morrison enduro on 11/4/01. You are refering to the Illinois x-country race on 10/28/01. Two entirly different events and not the same promoters.

Is there going to be camping at the enduro?

Hey Doc,

Plans for the Morrison enduro still up in the air. I'm still waiting for more info to be posted here on mileage from the club. Ground miles between gas stops, etc... I need to know if I will make it on the stock KX tank (I have in the past). Also, is the gas stop in a different location than the start as it has been in past years? One other question for the Morrison gang. What is being checked at the start? Working head light? Tail light? Horn? etc... I know more is better, but I am going to be pressed for time due to a car racing banquet, so I need to know. THANKS AND HOPE TO BE THERE SUNDAY!

P.S. DOC...you want to ride on my minute again if I go?

BrianT,

I'm not from the club but I did talk to one of the members last night. He said that it is about 65 ground miles and the gas stop is at about 32 miles. It is not at the start but is only about 2 road miles from the begining.

Illinois law requires a working head light so you'd better purchase a 9V battery and a toggle switch.;) You know the club is going to say you have to have all of that stuff because they don't want to be accused of sending bikes out on the road that aren't street legal. Of course, what they say and then do is two different things.

Personally I would have the headlight so that it works on the highway. That is the first thing the police will see. If it's on then with a little luck they wont pay any attention to you.

Layton is correct about the mileage. About 65 ground miles and gas at about 32 miles. We had 11 bikes start and mileage day and most of them finished.
And typically we won't allow anyone to start without at least a working headlight.
There have been some issues the last couple of years with the local law enforcement officials, seems they really start to ask questions when it comes to insurance cards, or the lack of.

It usually starts when riders completely disobay the stop signs or don't even slow down when entering the public roads when leaving a field section.

Thanks Layton and Al. I wouldn't even come if I didn't have a working headlight.

My biggest concern was if I could make it to the gas stop with the stock KX tank. The actual mileage at the Madison enduro was 30 ground miles and I was on fumes (or at least lighter on fuel than I would like). Since Madison was the first time I rode the bike (didn't actually buy it until the Monday after), I don't know what the fuel range is.

Thanks again for the info guys!

If you are heading in from Route 88 take Lyndon road North off of Route 30 a few miles before you get to Morrison.
If You are heading down Route 78 take route 30 east through Morrison and out of town and then hit Lyndon road north.
I think Lyndon road is aboout 4-5 miles east of Morrision on Route 30.
There are usually arrows up at that intersection, although sometimes it is late on Saturday before they are put up.
You can try to locate Clover Road and Lyndon Road in Morrison IL on Mapquest that is within a mile of the Start.

Lyndon road is only about a mile east of Morrison. Try this link for a good map to the event.

If it doesn't click then copy and past it into your address on your browser.

Thanks to the Iowa Enduro Riders Assc. for posting this map on their site. :) The route sheet for the event should be posted around Friday.

Doc here are the directions off of Mapquest.
There are 0.7 miles ( 0.7km) between the start of the directions and your origin. Use the first map below to get to US-30/IL-78 . Use local roads to get to US-30/IL-78 . Use the map below to get to US-30/IL-78 .

1: Start out going Southeast on US-30/IL-78 towards US-30 by turning left. 0.1 miles ( 0.2 km)

2: Stay straight to go onto US-30. 2.4 miles ( 3.8 km)

3: Turn LEFT onto LYNDON RD. 4.8 miles ( 7.8 km)

There are 0.4 miles ( 0.4km) between the end of the directions and your destination. Use local roads to get to 17701 CLOVER RD MORRISON, IL 61270-9719. Use the map below to get to 17701 CLOVER RD MORRISON, IL 61270-9719.

TOTAL ESTIMATED TIME: 26 minutes TOTAL DISTANCE:
Get there faster in The New 255-horsepower Infiniti I35

7.3 miles

Brian T the course will be going very near, within a couple hundred yards , of the area that is going to be the gas stop at about the 20-25 mile marker on the first section of the enduro. I don't think it will be an "Official" stopping area but you will be close to the gas stop.
On the last 30-35 miles of the course it is a lot of very open riding and I didn't use as much gas on the second half of the course as I did on the first half.
Hope this helps, I won't be able to post any more responses since I will be away from a computer after Thursday afternoon.

Hopefully will see you at the enduro. I'll probably be working a check somewhere on the course.
